How I did it: I applied to four museum and gallery positions online in the last month. I was granted four interviews. The last one I applied for was at a Non-profit Art and Performing Arts Center and the interview went smoothly. Although it doesn't pay very well it is great to have my foot in the door. The best part is I am my own boss now (other than the board of directors that I work for!! :) Yippee! Good luck everyone!
Lessons & tips: Not all of the jobs were the perfect fit but I applied anyway for the experience. By the fourth interview I was finally in a good groove and had a great interview! They called me within two days to offer me the job.
Resources: I used Aviso, Craigslist, and local Museum and University websites to help me search. I also suggest the College Arts Association (CAA) to anyone needing help finding a job.

I want to work in a museum because I thrive in creative and educational atmospheres. I think it is a great learning opportunity and a good way to share my knowledge with others. The experiences of being in the few museums I have visited were all very enriching.

it’s been 2 years since my first day at the museum that I work for and that means it’s also been 2 years of economizing and financial pang. I love to be around the field of art but I get depressed at the same time when I find myself hesitating for a cup of starbucks.
I’m the exhibits coordinator at our local museum and I love it. My job is stress free, and part time, but still pays well. It probably helps that we’re not a stuffy, snobby type museum.
I started out volunteering, then worked coatcheck, and now am at the admission desk!
