I live in central Michigan and want to make and distribute warm, high-quality, and aesthetically pleasing hats, gloves, scarves, coats, blankets, and other useful things to homeless people in my state and anywhere else. I don’t know where to start. I think the obvious answer is to take them directly to the people needing them, but I would prefer to do this with others with the same goal.
People doing this are also doing these things:

JudithKD I LOVE the year in review thing...how cool! Thx robots!
and I’m afraid the socks didn’t go to the homeless but the Somali refugees I work with. It was either them or the veteran’s self-supporting farm (for the guys socks). I don’t have an easy way to give clothing to the homeless here. I live near a ski resort in a “rural” suburb in a small town. That isn’t to say that we probably don’t have homeless folks nearby, but I don’t know where!

I donate my old clothes at the local food bank I’ve started helping at. However I shall make an effort to increase their supply of clothes as you’ve prompted me into an idea. I shall be volunteering on a regular basis for my local Oxfam shop in the New Year – I’ll check what they do with unwanted clothes etc.

most of our things of this type either go to a refugee group or a group of vets that are supporting themselves by raising organic veggies.
I’m not sure what (if anything) I have left to donate, but I’ll look!

We have the mildest climate in Canada. However, it rains a lot here and this past weekend it snowed 6-8 inches. Every year I have organized a scarf, sock, hat, mitten and blanket drive for the homeless. I can see the relief and gratitute on the faces of those in need when I, along with a few volunteers go around and hand out the stuff we have collected. I hope that you can join me in this goal, a very worthwhile one. Thank you!
