How to buy a cabin
How I did it: Also, go to the bookstore and look through cabin and such type of books. And talk to friends, they can have valuable information.
Lessons & tips: But nothing beats visiting houses on the market, since you can decide what is and isn't a deal breaker, what your real needs are, and what's available on the market.
Resources: Zillow, agent, county GIS systems, etc.

Peace, Rest, Relaxation. Not to mention all the wild parties I can have with my crew…basically my husband and kids, but hey if I have a cabin I’m sure I’ll find a larger crew.
It was good, but to maintain and keep a cabin is a lot of work. We didn’t have a water system, the cabin was abandoned for 20 years, so it took a summer of just cleaning things out. Then another getting solar power going. Another after that building a shed for the solar power system and garden.
The things you should know about are the neighbors, access to water, who maintains the road, is it open all year round, etc…
We spent a long time getting the cabin to the point where it could be used in the spring and fall. Making sure that it had glass in the windows, and the holes in the walls were plugged.
All in all, it’s a great thing to do. I love my cabin. But it’s not just hanging out in hammocks and reading books.
