Pony penning day is July 29th this year, and I am going. I just convinced my sister to go also, and we are going to find a hotel. It’s about a 10 hour drive so I hope it’s worth it!
How to visit Chincoteague and see the Pony Penning

How I did it: We stayed at a hotel in Salisbury, MD which is about 1 hr 15 minutes from Chincoteague. I would suggest staying in that town because it is far enough away that they don't jack their prices way up and you can easily drive in that morning. Do not stay at the Best Western though, it was terrible.
Lessons & tips: Bring snacks and drinks because you may have to wait quite a while. The ponies only swim when they are ready and the experts decide when it should start.
