How to get an apartment"Having my own apartment, rather than living in student housing, is well worth it and long overdue..."
How I did it: I FINALLY got myself an apartment that I love. It's in the city centre, in a historical building. It's so cute! I still need to paint, clean and move all my stuff (not to mention all the furniture I will need to buy) but I'm really happy with it alread. Finally... light at the end of the tunnel! ;) Lessons & tips: Save money NOW. (see also: living on 80% of your income) Try getting second-hand furniture and kitchen equipment (washing machines, too). Also, get your friends + family to come paint and move your stuff- this will make an apartment attainable, even on a small income. Resources: In Leiden, Netherlands: http://www.sls.nl |

How I did it: I've been wanting a place of my own (for various reasons) since I was 16, I've been actively trying to move out. I've never been financially stable enough to achieve my goal. I'm living in a one bedroom apartment now, and although I'll admit it's kind of cheating because my grandparents still own it, I feel a real sense of freedom. It was a great solution because I was able to move out on good terms, I'm still very close to my parents, an… Read how I did it…
How I did it: I saved up some funds, paid off some debt, and became VERY ACTIVE with my apartment search.Make sure that you NOT ONLY have enough funds for deposi and first month's rent, but also deposits for electric, water, gas, and cable company. I would suggest that you find out how much this will cos all together, save that amount plus two/three months rent, and then move into an apartment! Read how I did it…
How I did it: Craigslist is not only a helpful everyday tool, it's also my best friend. I had to draw some money from places I didn't want to, but I did it without borrowing any money or using my savings bonds. Read how I did it…

My boyfriend and I just applied for an apartment. We should know tomorrow or Friday if we got it. I’m keeping my fingers crossed.
I just got bumped up to 30 hours at work in 2 weeks so this will make this goal happen. Sal can get more hours now too since we are out of school. I can’t WAIT to move!
So after today Sal and I will have $800 saved for our apartment. It’s a good feeling and I hope we can save a ton more for the winter.
I am still waiting on my hours to go up at work. My credit is fantastic so I know that won’t be a problem. I just hope they go up enough so I can get approved somewhere this summer.
This is happening in about 2 months!
Preparing isn’t the hardest part, even though there is so much we have had to buy.
SAVING IS THE HARDEST PART!!
We were able to save $500 so far, and we both get out of school in a matter of weeks, so our plan is to work, work, work, and save up.
just moved back up to ny, apartments are overpriced, gotta save some more money. there is poop on my stick :(

if I move to another city as planned I will meet this goal. this goal seems a lot more dependent on other facts which will allow this goal to be met as a side effect.
cross fingers.

I’ve lived in 3 different apartments with 2 different roommates, and NEVER AGAIN!!! I can’t say I didn’t enjoy the experience, but just because someone is your friend doesn’t mean you think the same when it comes to finances, cleaning, cooking, entertaining company and such… So now I’ve been waiting for five years for my boyfriend to want to move out and he finally said he wanted to before the end of the summer! Woohoo! I’ll keep you posted.
