I heard from the original producer, and apparently now is a really bad time for him to do work on this. He may just be stating that very emphatically, though, to communicate that he can’t work on it immediately, which is fine. I’ll see what his timetable is for finishing up this other project and when he might be willing to slot me in. My guess is he would rather do that than see us go to someone else. 2 years ago

If I don’t hear from the original engineer by the end of the week I’m going to call him, and if he isn’t interested in doing it anymore I’m taking it to the excellent recording engineer at work. His rates for faculty are quite reasonable.
Production issues are something else again, but I’ll worry about that later. 2 years ago

I’m going to mark this done, although it isn’t quite yet. But I’ve finally done the work I was dragging my feet on and now I’m sending the editing decisions to the engineer via email and the actual recordings via snail mail. I think Tom and I will finally see this long overdue project to completion. 2 years ago

If I don’t get my end of this done by the end of the summer my performing partner is threatening to take it out of my hands. He has written on his calendar on Labor Day weekend to call another producer. Time to get to work I guess. 2 years ago

remake this a priority. I did very well for a time, and then got stuck after my trip over Christmas break.
It looks very like neither of us will make it to NC over spring break, so I must continue doing this through the mail. It can be done, really; I need to put it at the top of my list, though, because it has to be the first thing after job, moving, PT and wedding.
There does seem to be very little time for anything beyond those basic things, though; and paying bills and the like. It sort of sucks that I don’t have enough time for one extra-curricular project. But I’m hoping that if it is the only thing I think about besides the necessaries, then it will get done. Besides, it is a finite project, not some never ending process like PT. 3 years ago

I might be buying my plane ticket to NC. If the producer can make some time for me the second week of January, I’ll do it. Even though it will put me back in my longterm quest to be debt free. I just really want to get this done.
If I go to NC then I can also get two other things crossed off: the tapes in the historical collection and something else, I forget what. 4 years ago

It was a real disappointment not to get this done over the summer while I was in NC. First, it means another trip there, which isn’t a bad thing, of course . . .
But anyway, I just got a note from my over-extended producer who reaffirmed his commitment to the project, confirmed that he got the CDs from Tom and that he would go through his DATs this week. In the meantime, I have to go through my own DATs and try to get someone to transfer them for me. I also have to finish the editing notes on the last bit of instrumental recording.
I’ll try to make a goal of this. It will be a good opportunity to talk to the new recording technology guy at school. First, it is a simple matter to look through the DATs and find anything that looks like it is relevant. Then a quick email to new recording guy about what it will take to get them transferred (like paying a grad student). The final editing notes I can do this weekend, I suppose.
And the final thing I need to do is check my schedule and the terms of the Continental airline ticket I need to use by a certain date. Most importantly, what that date is. 4 years ago

My producer finally got back to me. He has been pretty swamped because he has a book that just came out that he is promoting and a couple of people died whose funerals he was involved with. I had heard about one of them, actually, and suspected as much. He thought he might be able to do today, as he had a shoot of an arthroscopic surgery scheduled that he thought might be cancelled, but apparently it wasn’t.
I’m not losing hope, though. I’m glad I got the notes done, more or less. If we could set something up after Christmas and stick to it we might be able to get the whole thing polished off then. This will also give us a chance to locate every last DAT we generated and for me to finish the notes for the harp solo takes.
A disappointment, but I’ll live. 4 years ago

to schedule something, but my producer hasn’t called me back in days. WTF? 4 years ago

today. I’m slowing down as I’m closing in on this. Only four more left. I drafted a note to the producer but I still won’t let myself send it until I’m really done.
The last three I’m hoping will be easier because they are all instrumental solos. Although it could just as easily make them harder. 4 years ago

one more today. Not three. Why is this so painful? Perhaps because I’ve already listened to every take 500 BILLION TIMES??? 4 years ago

I just finished three more songs. I believe I only have six left, but it has been so long, I need to doublecheck some things.
Maybe I can get this done over the weekend and finally call the producer. 4 years ago

I finally sat down and did three more songs this morning. If I can do three a day, even though it is tedious, I should be done by the end of the weekend I think.
I don’t want to call JS about it until I am almost done, or even done with my part. I don’t want to make any promises that there is any chance of my not keeping. 4 years ago

To achieve this goal:
1. Find past editing notes
2. Find all takes on itunes
3. Rip several CDs of said takes
4. Take them over Christmas
5. Contact JS, the engineer and set something up in March
6. Buy Raleigh plane ticket
7. Just do it 5 years ago
