I know I technically failed this goal as I only completed 11 out of the 12 new things, but given for 4 months of the year I have been pregnant and not able to over-exert myself, Im allowing this to be a success anyway – as I think 11 new types of exercise in 8 months is pretty cool.
So yay me – and Ill be picking this up again in maybe for 2009 when I have some weight to be losing! ;o) 4 years ago

Again, this was another new form of exercise which I tried for the first time back in May (and forgot it counted under this goal!) Caving was a bit scary but really good fun. I went in three different caves which were all different.
The first cave had a squeeze to get in, which basically is what it sounds like, an entrance in which you literally have to lie on your belly and use your finger tips and general wiggling to pull yourself through.
The second cave was by far the scariest as it was knee deep in water (I have a bit of a water phobia) and the instructors kept setting us challenges to go under overhangs as opposed to climbing over them, which obviously involved getting very wet and getting your head very wet (and I managed to do the challenges too!)
The last cave was a bit boring, apart from the fact it was full of bats, and we went into that one without the instructors and we were on a treasure hunt at that point!
So yes, I liked caving despite the layers we had to put on, the cold, and all the other drawbacks! Its an activity which I might try again someday… 4 years ago

I did rockclimbing back in May when I went on my residential leadership course – and it only occurred to me recently that it so counts as a new form of exercise.
I have to say, I didn’t like it at all – and I got very stressed everytime I had to do it (which was about 3 different times) I pulled the muscles in my arms and legs trying to pull myself up,and generally didnt like it – but still an achievement! 4 years ago

I did this one a while ago at the new gym i joined, but forgot to add it on! I quite enjoyed the rowing machine, and use it as the warm-up to my workout routine.
Oh, when I am allowed back to the gym, I cant wait to get back on all the machines! 4 years ago

Given I have a phobia of water… I was very impressed to have discovered a water-related form of exercise!
While on holiday, I went snorkelling with my partner every other day, and it was great! It was terrifying but it fab exercise.
Im even thinking about taking up swimming now :o) 4 years ago

woooooo!
On Tuesday evening, due to a mishap in my timing and remembering to take my kit to work, I couldnt go with my work buddy to our usual aerobics class, so we went to boxercise instead. And I have to say, it was AWESOME! I totally love it.
Lots of lunging and abs work which was hard but fab, and the best bit was the padwork, where you get to don a pair of boxing gloves and hit things – blummin’ fantastic – and after the week I have had at work, it was just what I needed. I am definitely going to boxercise again, and I would reccomend it for anyone! 4 years ago

I tried a new exercise class this week, called Energy Blast.
It was a dance aerobics class which involved a lot of choreography which the instructor expected you to pick up very quickly. The result was that it was actually a more difficult mental workout trying to remember all the steps, than being a physical workout.
I imagine it could be a lot of fun if I was prepared to go every week, and to put up with feeling like Im not getting it for the first month, but thats not what I want from an exercise class…
Plus some of the people there were… well to be blunt… pretty annoying. There was this guy (and I dont really like mixed-sex classes anyway) who leapt around the room barely aware of us novices at the back of the room and thus getting in our way. Then there was this woman who did the splits at any given opportunity, even though they were completely uncalled for.
Anyway, its still fun trying new things :o) And I did take 2 colleagues from work with me, as they want to try exercise but needed some support to make the first step.
Am trying another new class next week, so will report back! 4 years ago

I am counting an exercise bike towards this goal as I havent been on one in about 6 years, so it was almost a new experience!
Im going to use it from now on to add a bit of variety to my gym workout on days when I cant bear the tredmill. 4 years ago

Body Pump
Again, this should have been fun but the ‘taster’ they put us through was hard – they gave us a really hard workout (the instructors were showing off and doing the hardest combos which was a bit daft as its a bit off putting for newbies).
Anyway, this was ok, althought I did not like the lift with the dumbell bar which was called the ‘Skullcrusher’ (I do not kid). Bascially, you are laid on this platform and have to really slowly lower the dumbell bar backwards towards your skull, and if you slip you know you will be in trouble. Yuk. However, the other weights exercises, esp the one which worked the thighs were great.
So I might do this again… 5 years ago

Body Combat
Basically, this is like boxercise but much much much more complicated. Though the instructor we had was obviously showing off a bit as he ran through all the ‘basic’ moves far too quickly.
I think this could be loads of fun once all the moves are learnt, but it is hard. It makes my aerobics class look like the hokey cokey by comparison. So not sure Ill be doing this one again. Id prefer an ordinary boxercise class. 5 years ago

Crosstrainer
This was wierd. Took me a while to get used to the whole arms going one way, legs going the other way thing. Could definitely feel it working all the muscles in my legs so will give it another go, but I didnt get the same sense of satisfaction from this that I get on a tredmill. 5 years ago

Tredmill
Running on a tredmill is so totally different to running on the road. I LOVE this and will definitely be alternating it with my roadrunning (beep beep!) 5 years ago

I have borrowed your goal – as this really appeals to me!
We should also have a pact to try and do different activities under this, so that bewteen us we achieve 24 different things!
Ha ha :o)
