I’m a pretty woman, why have a messy desk, not match at all
How to clean up my desk
How I did it: Honestly, I just put most of the papers into a box labeled "unsorted papers" (because I can't decide yet if certain financial papers are worth saving or filing). And I put some office supplies in a handy place. Staplers seem like a must to keep papers together. I did file and throw out a bunch of papers too. The nice thing about their accumulating is that I could see all the low-priority events/issues that I let slide over the months (well, one time I did this, I found an expired check :(, otherwise, the other papers' existence was just telling about my semi-conscious priorities). Anyway, the clear area on my desk now should help me deal with mail etc. as it comes along, to avoid some future pile-ups.
Lessons & tips: -Find temporary locations for things if necessary
-Start with the obvious things you can toss or move
-Don't buy file cabinets etc until you need them
-Think about the comfy reading etc you can do on cold winter nights; or think of what a good impression you will have on your co-workers
Resources: -plentiful file folders
-pens and sharpies

This week, I made it my goal to clean up my desk at work (by desk I mean general “workstation area”, as there were issues with the drawers and stuff under the desk).
There was unfortunately a massive pile of junk in boxes under the desk. I’m ashamed to say that I threw it in the boxes because it needed sorting… and it’s been there ever since.
So, it’s now sorted!!!!
And it’s sitting in a series of 8 plastic boxes on my lounge room floor. The next step is to get some folders, and either hole punch it, or put it in plastic sleeves, and in the folders, and on the shelf in my office.
This weekend, I’m also going to sort out “every speech pathology related piece of paper I own” (I’m estimating that there’s enough to make a pile from the floor to the ceiling!).
It’s a big goal, but it needs doing… and it should lead to me having tidier desks, and being more productive, because I can use my stuff!
Photos will be forthcoming…

I go into the study sometimes and add things to the mess…
while I’m getting organised, I should make some time to tidy my desk. Even half an hour is enough time to do a part of it.

As of tommorrow, I will no longer be the only Speechie on my site! I’m very excited about working with another Speechie.
What it did mean is that I had to move offices- and with that, I had to clean up my desk! The paper I accumulated! My goodness, I didn’t even recognise some of it!
So, my old desk is clear, ready for Liz.
My new desk is clear-ish, and hopefully I’ll be able to keep it tidy. I’ll have to, as it’s half the size of my old one.
My desk at home is still a junk heap though…

When I set this goal for myself, I had one desk in mind.
The one here at home, in the study.
Now there are two- my desk at work isn’t looking too good at the moment! And when I clean it up, the mess goes into the filing cabinet drawers, and the cupboard….
I must clean up my desk.
I must learn to be organised, and stop making a mess!

Well, not quite. I still have “stuff” on my desk but everything has a “home.” Tossed a bunch and put the rest away where it belongs. Now I can breathe and think again.

Not that I’m anywhere near finished or anything.
