I’ve read most of this book now, going to skip the last 2 chapters though.
The author states that all of our fears come down to one single thing: the fear of not being able to cope with a situation that we might be confronted with. The good news is that whatever situation we end up with, we’ll manage. We’ll feel the fear as long as we develop ourselves, the thing is to not let fear rule our lives.
The rest of the book is devoted to ways of handling fear/change: positive thinking, taking responsibility, making choices, acceptance etc.
After reading this book, I’m left with some mixed feelings. I like the parts about fear, responsibility, choices, the chapter about acceptance was okay but I really didn’t like the positive thinking bit. To my feeling it’s much more important to have people around you or not being isolated as with Succes Teams .

Feel the Fear
For my own reference, I wanted to write a brief summary of the some of the things I learned from this cool book;
- All one needs to do to diminish their fears is to develop more trust in their ability to handle the challenges that come their way
- Avoid negative language. The more powerful and positive the language you use, the more strength you give yourself
- Expand your comfort zone. This can be done in small steps
- Take responsibilities for the reactions to situations in life. We cannot control what happens to us, but we can control our reaction to it
- After making a decision, let go of the expectation of the outcome. Expectations are great motivators for decision making, but we cannot control the future so should not be disappointed if an outcome is different to what we have anticipated. It is still another opportunity, but presented in a different way
- Making decisions is empowering and is progress
- Act as though you count. Commitment eliminates boredom
- The grid concept. Balance relationships, work, relaxation, learning, family, social etc. If you live life like this, then the bottom doesn’t fall out if one of those parts of your life undergoes a major change
- Have gratitude and acknowledge people from our past and present that have taught us lessons along the way

“Feel the Fear and Do It Anyway”. Up to 3rd chapter now. Some things seem to make so much sense and seem so obvious, that you think, “why did I never look at things this way before?”
I can remember so many (maybe almost all!) of my great moments had some fear or trepidation that could have prevented me from taking action.
I need a bit more action, so I think at the end of the book I’ll be a lot less fearful of,umm, fear :)

Cover to Cover

I’ve read a lot of this, but not cover to cover. And I’ve not done all the exercises. Those will be different goals, but just reading the whole book is my first goal.
