Peppermint essencial oil is like mouse kryptonite.

I put drops of the oil on the carpet/skirting board where the mice tend to travel, and on cotton wool to put in any mouse holes/ little crannies. I also make up my own kitchen surface spray with 10 drops of peppermint essential oil, a drop of washing up liquid, a little bleach and warm water.

maybe freshen up the cotton wool every few months and around the skirtings. In the last yr I have maybe seen 1 mouse, which was my own lazyness I hadn’t topped up the peppermint.

Makes a change from finding 4 baby mice dancing on the kitchen surfaces lol

I can't live like this anymore 17 months ago

This was such a nice house until someone bought the shell next door and started doing a full rehab. Well, apparently whatever was living in their house has decided to migrate to ours. I can’t take it. 2 dead in one week. This is a full-on war.

Well i no longer live in the mouse infested hole that was my home for a year! Hopefully no vermin problems when i move into my new house in September.

My housemate saw one run across the kitchen counter and down the back of the cooker last night.

    Nice.

I've been awake for nearly 3 hours.. 19 months ago

    and it’s basically 8am.

God damn mice woke me up because they scratched so loudly behind the alcove in my room that i actually thought they were in and it scared the crap out of me and i haven’t been able to sleep since. I’ve heard them twice again since then, now that it’s light outside i may sleep.. they tend to roam in the evening when it’s quiet. Maybe i’m a light sleeper but it was incredibly noisy. I just want them to gggggo, my landlord sucks!!!!

I think it's the cold weather... 2 years ago

I wanted to borrow my friend’s cat, but I doubt it’ll happen. I think mice avoid the mere presence of a cat—even a kitten that doesn’t know how to hunt. Too bad my own kitty lives with my parents. He’s a hunter extraordinaire.

No evidence of them 2 years ago

They were originally coming through the pantry which is on an outer wall. That was where I saw the greatest evidence of their activity. I thoroughly cleaned it, and now for several weeks have not seen any evidence of them.

I did let the cat stay in the house several times when I went out, so it’s possible that he caught them and ate them while I was gone (or in the middle of the night). The other possibility is the cat scared them outside, and they have gone to look for a safer house.

Regardless, I have let the cat back in several times, and he has given no indication of being aware of mice either (the first time I let him in, he IMMEDIATELY went to where there had been mouse activity, and put on his best hunting posture). So, after two week of no activity and no evidence of activity I am declaring this done. I’ll do it again if they come back.

Still no evidence of mice... 2 years ago

A week later, and the mice have not showed up again, and there is no evidence of them in their old stomping grounds. I’ve let the cat in several times, and he has given no indication of hearing the mice. I think they may be gone. I’ll give it another week (and especially another really cold night), before I declare this completed. For now, I may move it further down my list.

    Mice gone? 2 years ago

I let the cat in several nights, and haven’t seen (or heard) the mice since. There are some droppings in the corner of my pantry, but not sure if they are old. I’m cleaning them up today, and going to see if they come back. The pantry in on an outer wall, and that’s where the most droppings have shown up, so pretty sure that’s where the critters came in.

    Set traps 3 years ago

Okay, I set “humane” traps all over the house. I’m giving these mice a fighting chance. If they go into the traps, I’ll take them to a field somewhere out of town and let them go. If not, their only other choices will be the cat, or the type of trap that breaks their necks. Ouch!

Sorry, mice, just be good and go into the traps, so I don’t have to resort to more drastic measures.
