I got an email back from Experian today. My dispute was successful! They deleted the Cingular negative entry from my credit record! Yay!

Well, a while ago I had sent away for a dispute form for Experian, since they had a negative item about a very frustrating problem with Cingular (nutshell version: I upgraded my old ATT Wireless phone for a new one with them, returned it in 20 minutes after I realized the sales rep lied to me about bluetooth, which I required but the phone did not actually have), and they credited my card but apparently never shut off the account, which resulted in them shutting off my real phone a year later due to “nonpayment.” Fun!). I got the form, but lost it in my pile of to-be-dealt-with mail. Found it the other day, and just in the nick of time, since it was dated 21 August and disputes have to be returned 90 days or less from the date of the report.
So, I just filled out the form (they also had a couple of wrong addresses, mostly due to people who can’t type, apparently—you know, really, more companies ought to use address standardization software), and stamped the envelope, and now I guess I get to wait 45 days to see if they agree with my side of the story or not.
Stupid Cingular.
