work in the theatre

and I was actually offered a position as Production Assistant for the Fall Program. Unfortunately I had to turn it down because of a conflict with my day job work schedule, but it’s very flattering that I was the first choice for the position.

Who knows what other opportunities this may present for me?

well i guess i’ve achieved this, i am now a casual technician at my local theatre. Going to keep going with this though as the real goal is to become a stage manager. next step is 2 weeks at the salisbury playhouse where i will ask all the questions possible to workout exactly what i need to do. then in 1 week i will fill out my application to study an MA and then its just fingers crossed!!!!!

Its all going amazingly well, i quit my job a month ago and moved back in with my parent so i can really focus on working in the theatre, i have managed to get myself a stage management shadow with a youth theatre production that starts in a week, very scary as i have no experince at all. I have also landed 2 weeks work experince at the Salisbury Playhouse which is amazing!! Also have an interview for an Arts Management internship at a small local theatre so fingers crossed. It just shows taht if you focus anything really could be possible!! next step is to get some real work!!

So, my role as production manager is actually a lot bigger than I thought! I’ve already started with auditions last week, and I’m starting to get volunteers organized. Pretty exciting.

The show I’m stage managing is going up next week and I’m really excited! It’s going to be really great.

Gah! There’s so much to do but I LOVE every minute of it!

I already have a position as Production Manager for a children’s theatre company this summer, and they are even going to be producing a play that I wrote! It’s only a 6-week position in the summer but I’m SO looking forward to it.

From that, I was contacted about stage managing another show that goes up in June! One of my contacts from the children’s theatre gave my phone number to the director of the June show, she contacted me and the rest is history! Rehearsals start next week!

I believe this is just the beginning for me. I definitely want to make my career in the theatre and the arts.

been drifting for too long, decided that working in the theatre is what i really want. joined an amdram society and am going to an open day at the royal welsh college of music and drama. fingers crossed these are my first steps to a career that i can be truly passionate about and will constantly challenging me!!

I start Uni next week doing Hair and Make-up design for Theatre! I’m so excited… it would be the perfect career. I also start working for Hair and Make-up on The Lion, The Witch and The Wardrobe in a month!! Exciting times…

I have a BFA in Theatre Performance and a MAH in Film and Performance from UB. Why aren’t I acting? I somehow got a job teaching special ed math last year and I love it… but I need to make the time to pursue my dreams!

I did children’s theatre during the summers and after school. I’ve forgotten most of it (uh, except a few bad auditions… grin). My high school had a good theatre program, but the instructor was having a midlife crisis (sometimes wouldn’t even show up to teach) so I opted to start studying video instead.
Now I find my interests moving back towards the theatre, especially fringe theatre. There are a lot of good theatres here looking for help.

I have so much respect for people who do it, even when it seems thankless. I support all you folks who are doing it right now. Here’s hoping the second golden age will begin tomorrow!
