get published in a magazine

While I haven’t been actively working on this goal, it is always in the back of my mind. A while ago Metro mag had a call out for article ideas, and I replied and sent them a copy of my final cinema studies essay.

I got a reply yesterday saying that they really liked my essay and would keep me in mind for stories and that if I had any ideas that I should feel free to submit them! Cool.

So far i’ve been rejected by The Sun. Submitted to Narrative. Will re-submit to The Sun.

Now I’ve looked over Highlights some more, and I don’t think I’ll go with it, primarily because they say, “We buy all rights, including copyright….” I don’t want to sell copyrights. Is this normal for a magazine?

I think I’ll try for Highlights for Children. They’re respectable and I’ve always liked them. First, I think I’ll ask others to read the story. Some kids maybe? I wonder if it would be awkward to print out my story and ask kids in Barnes&Noble or the library if they would read it and tell me what they think. My younger sister works with little kids for her STEP programme too; I could always ask her to have the teacher read it to the class, or something along those lines.

I’ve written a short story, and I’m pretty satisfied with it too. I’m going to research magazines for kids to find the best for publication. I hope it’s a worthy story. <3

i was in 6th grade.

I got a website mention in the Jan/Fed issue. I still don’t think this goal is complete but.. that was a close one!

- maybe some day an infosec mag?

Was published several times in Full Size Jeep Magazine. :)
