My entire life I left my country at least once a year. Living in Belgium this is not hard to do, the country is small and within 2-3 hours I can be in the Netherlands, Germany, France or Luxembourg. Or the UK if I bother to take a ferry. My parents have always taken us abroad on vacation, and our neighbouring countries were often visited on weekend or even day trips. They started bringing their children along before I was even a year old. I think this made me and my brother more open minded about other cultures & customs.
I can’t imagine not going abroad for a year… it is the most normal thing to do for me, like visiting another city, and it’s this way for most other Belgians too I’m sure. 3 years ago
