I just don’t get it.
I’m glad I’m not the only one who thought this wasn’t worth it.
This is exactly what I get for not doing my work…
How I did it: All I set as the goal was to go in and look around and I never got up the motivation to actually do this. 18 months ago it looked like all librarians would NEED to know this. Now I have the hunch I can get away with never learning it. And since I don't want to, I'm scratching it off the list.

It’s too cumbersome to do things, too focused on the appearance of things – literally superficial. The processes aren’t developed enough. It’s gamelike, and yet slower and less detailed than any decent game. Reminds me of the early days of AOL chatrooms, where a few people wanted to have good conversation and exchange information, but the rooms were overrun by spambots and kids impressing only themselves with unimaginative cursing. With freedom comes idiocy, apparently.
The concept is there, but this isn’t the right execution of it. I will watch for something else to happen in this sphere. There is plenty to occupy me in other geeky social networking spaces.
Librarian is making progress.
...I’m not finding myself anxious to go back in given that the technology required seems to be higher than what I’ve got.
Librarian is making progress.

I can’t say I really get this either. It’s awkward to get things done and I don’t understand, and am mildly worried by, the social dynamic. In the real world, strangers rarely approach me and say “hi.” Also in the real world, if I’m trying to get things done, I throw off vibes that keep people from expecting too much social interaction from me—I don’t think that capacity is present in my avatar.
Now, I need to go live my First Life for awhile.
Okay…I may take a peek in here (with a guide) one more time…but honestly, I’ll stick to real life.
I’m a cybergeek who is always online…and I still don’t “get” Second Life.
