rewire my house

I never thought it would cost so much especially doing our own work. Following the codes and making sure we were doing it right was stressful. At the end I must say I am proud of our work. It was well worth it all. Especially since it was done OUR way.

This was fun, I learned a lot, but I spent so much money on tools and equipment, so much time hesitating about where to run what, how to deal with plaster repair, etc.

Not sure I would do it again myself.

We want to do this ourselves to save money. 75% of our house in knob & tube and in decent shape, but we want to add more insulation to our attic and upgrading our wiring will only help us whenever we sell.

Wiring in my house was a nightmare when I bought it, and I couldn’t find an electrician I trusted to do the work, so attempted it myself. Did it in chunks, took me over a year, but it got completed eventually.

Very satisfying!

this one is waiting on another goal. i’ve got my tools loaned out and will have them back after that one is done.

As of 3-24-06, with the so appreciated assistance of my father, my house has wiring – up to code wiring, no less. Suddenly all the remaining jobs needed attention seem so possible. YAY!!!!!!!!!

I had put off doing this for so long, that when I finally got round to it, apart from the 10 days of mess, it was easy.

some basics to consider
think not just about just replacing what you have but improving add those extra sockets.
think about computing, data wiring, television arial and hifi as well. They can all be incorporated in the same conduits.
think about what light fittings you want these may not be in the basic quote.

Be around then you can solve the problems together, rather than getting back later and getting annoyed

the lads have been working hard and we have nearly got the wiring finished. Now the plasterer has arrived to do his bit.
Every room it seems has just a little bit to do, basically mess everywhere. Reclaimed the living room and a bathroom and just tidied them up.

Putting things in store worked really well.

have found some nice guys to come and do it for me. At a cost.
All I have to do is pack up the house and move out.
Then sort out the redecoration when I move back in.

Sounds easy but feels like a mountain to climb especially with all my books cluttering up the study.
