This was such a busy year that I didn’t have much time to write about this goal, but since starting the goal it gave me time to reflect on some of my bad habits. I wrote a list of the habits that I wanted to tackle this year, and it looks like writing the list helped me to achieve some of the goals.
Below is a list of 12 bad habits that I managed to overcome. I’m making a list of 12 to represent one bad habit for each month of the year.
1. I got rid of old papers that I didn’t need. It felt so liberating to shred these papers. I don’t know why I didn’t do this earlier. It literally felt like a weight was lifted once I got rid of old unnecessary papers! (Broke a paper shredder in the process!)
2. I stopped eating microvable popcorn. I used to eat it several times a week… sometimes even for dinner! I don’t miss eating it.
3. I stopped snacking in front of the computer. I think that being busy helped with this goal.
4. I stopped chewing gum. Whenver I chewed gum it would make my teeth hurt, and my stomach ache from the ingredients in the gum. I haven’t had an upset stomach since I stopped.
5. I stopped drinking pop entirely, but then started having the occassion pop. Now I drink it very rarely.
6. I purged my home of a bunch of things that I didn’t need. It helped with my move, and it feels more relaxing to know that I don’t have boxes of stuff that I’ve hoarded over the years.
7. I went a whole month without eating deep-fried foods. I discovered that it was nearly impossible to sustain an absolute ban on eating deep-fried foods, so now it’s on the rare occassion that I eat deep-fried foods. I think that by limiting the amount of pop that I drink, and the amount of deep-fried foods that I eat that I haven’t gained much weight during this pregnancy.
8. This year I limited the amount of junk food that I eat. I don’t have any junk food in my pantry. I simply won’t buy it so there’s no temptation.
9. I broke the habit of staying ‘stuck in a rut’ I busted out, and took more risks. I can’t believe that I was able to do some of things things that I did this year. It feels great to break free of routine behaviour, and be a bit unpredictable at times.
10. In the same vein as taking more risks, I limited the amount of self-doubt/ negative self-talk so that I could more things. It’s amazing how breaking this habit has changed my life.
11. I managed my time more efficiently. I don’t think that I would have been able to get the things done that I did if I continued to procrastinate.
12. With better time management came organization. I feel like I’m more organized now than I was 6 months ago.
