learn how to study

I mean, I got 100% on a state exam!

I know how to study, in the sense of the word: reading, writing, re-copying notes and focusing only on the subject at hand.  However, I cannot figure out which one best goes with my learning style, and the difficult bit is that I think said learning style varies with each subject.  In history, for example, I am an auditory learner and remember best what was mentioned in lectures or meticulously reading/highlighting instead of my notes from the textbook.  In biology, I only remember textbook notes.  In math and chemistry, I don’t remember anything without a crapton of practice that is impractical and takes up way too much time.  Can anybody offer any help on figuring out how to most effectively utilize my studying time?  I was never taught how to study, per se—these are simply things I picked up over the years.

I know what I should be doing and what I’m actually doing… I’m getting by, but I don’t want to just GET BY, I want to understand what I’m learning. I’m just so burnt out after class it’s hard to be persistent. But I’ll work on it.

The first step in knowing how to study is knowing WHAT to study, and why. Without knowing what you don’t know and why you don’t know it, how are you supposed to learn how to apply your strengths to learn what it is you’re trying to learn? That probably makes no sense… but here’s an example. In Spanish, I know I’m kind of bad at hearing and speaking, so I circle words I read and can’t pronounce and practice saying them out loud so I get used to how they sound. It’s that same principle.

I NEVER EVER study for my tests/exams. NEVER. I seriously need to start doing this more (except for Geometry.. it’s an easy A. I’m beginning to think I was a born math nerd.. destined to be a mathmatician… or maybe it’s just from my dad’s side. Yeah, that’s it. He’s an engineer… I’m going off topic here. Please slap me).

This isn’t working out for me! I just probably failed my AP English Comp exam.

fuuuuuck me

Is my AP English exam. I’m going in blind. My teacher did a shitty job preparing us and I haven’t done much more than he did. I think I gave up hope last semester to be honest. I’m a horrible studier. I keep getting distracted. Often times, I’ll ace things just because I remembered learning it the first time. But cumulative things that span over a semester to a year… not so sure on that. My form of “studying” is skimming the material hours or even minutes before the test.

I’m going to fail college if I don’t shape up.
