How I did it: WOW is not my favorite thing on earth. I mean, it took me like 4 years to get to level 70. LOL. I played cuz my man likes it, but I usually just fall asleep during gameplay. I'm not dissing anyone who likes the game, but it can be a bit boring. Read how I did it…
How I did it: I did all the quests in Outland, only really bothering to hang about in Zangarmarsh. I find QuestHelper was very useful. Generally, try to quest where the mobs are 1 or 2 levels above you, solo as much as you can & don't bother with group quests or instances much. Read how I did it…

- Get the add-on Quest Helper or Carbonite Quest. These mods assist you by showing you where to go to reach the objectives (items, mobs, locations, etc) for quests. I’m currenlty using Carbonite, but I used QH for a long time.
- While leveling solo or grinding, you want to kill things as fast as possible. Spec your Character’s talent build accordingly. I.E, Warriors spec in Arms or Fury – not full protection. Priests, spec Shadow, etc.
- Join a guild. Guildies who have high level crafting professions can make weapons and armor for you; generally speaking Guild Members don’t usually charge another Guild mate for their services; other than the cost of mats (materials). Its almost always cheaper to buy the mats for something and have someone make the item for you. Other benefits are that guilds will often run instances together; saving you from having to look for a group for an Instance. You can leverage the experience from more seasoned players to help you while you learn the game.
- The recent patch 3.0.2 vastly nerfed all the mobs, bosses and raid bosses by 30% of their original Hit Points; good to know since running instances will not only get you XP, but better gear to make your toon stronger thus killing things faster xD
- If you have a high-level friend, or have the gold to pay someone – get runs through instances. Example: Your level 13 and want the XP and loot from Dead Mines; a level 70 character kills the mobs while you stay behind, back far enough not to agro mobs onto yourself..
- Create a character on a PvE (Player versus Environment) Normal realm. You can always transfer your character (for about $25 dollars I believe..) to a Player vs Player realm later if thats your thing – speaking soley from a leveling perspective, PvE is a good choice since you will never have to worry about being ganked by the opposing faction while you quest and grind.
And have enough for your Mount..
- Get the add-on Auctioneer. This mod lets you scan the Auction House; it records data and helps you earn Gold by determining (based on scanning the AH) how much you should be selling your goods for on the AH. Almost everyone I know uses this mod.
- Have two gathering professions. Crafting things can be fun, and at higher skill levels you might be able to make your own Armor/Weapons/Potions, etc.. however – leveling a crafting profession is costly and counter-productive to saving Gold.
I strongly suggest Skinning as one of the professions; you can skin the Beasts you kill to sell the leather or hide, cook the meat they drop and vendor their trash. As of patch 3.0.2 Skinning has an added benefit called ‘Master of Anatomy’ – a Critical Strike bonus which further helps you in your quest to Level 70.
Herbalism is a good choice for the second – especially since the Inscription crafting skill is available now; at the time of this writing theres still a premium on Herbs on the Auction House; just because its the associated gathering skill for Inscription.
- Try to always have lots of room in your bags while you quest and grind; collect all Vendor Trash (items with their name in grey..) that drop from Monsters or Humanoids and vendor this next time your at a town or city. Extremely low level mobs drop trash usually worth a few copper; Beginning at about the mid-fifties range, vendor trash drops are worth about 1g/ea.
- Resist temptation to buy expensive gear; this might seem counter productive to Leveling since I said earlier better gear will help you level faster; it’s true that Blue (rare) quality equipment will help – but instead of buying it, run instances for gear – you’ll probably use it for 5 levels – tops – then replace it. Don’t waste your gold.
Leveling is important; but while you do so, take these thoughts into consideration:
- Level the First Aid skill while you level your toon. Every class should have this skill; healer or not. Bandages can be used while in water, while in combat and don’t use Mana (it’s probably faster to heal yourself with a bandage then give yourself a big heal then drink to replenish Mana and continue questing)
- Level Cooking; the food you cook at higher levels will give you very beneficial buffs to assist you with your grinding and questing.
- Neither of these two should eat into your time too much; the meat your need to cook drops from Beasts you’ll be killing and the cloth you need to make bandages drop from Humanoids.
Happy Leveling
Now I have to get back to WoW… :P
I’m playing Warhammer now. The graphics aren’t as pretty, but there are so many reasons to play it instead of WoW.
