Money = Vacations 11 months ago

This year has been by far my worst year for taking vacations yet. Money, the economy & debt has played the part.

This year we only made it up north for a 10 day trip, costing way more than I had expected, and Mexico last winter. That’s it, and for me, that’s almost unheard of.

2009 isn’t looking much better really. Mexico in the next few months, and I’m shooting for Myrtle Beach for sure in September, but with 2 major weddings, a house to finish, and a wedding of my own to plan for early 2010, it’s not looking good.

I really need to win the lottery, because vacationing would go back to being a priority on my list. I will say, a lot more 3, 4 & 5 day weekends this past year has helped.

Thank you, Eileen! 2 years ago

I seem to be taking vacations much more regularly now, all thanks to Eileen. I’ve certainly taken a few more days/weeks off than last year, which has led me to not losing vacation days either. Been going to new places, like Sicilia, as well as revisiting some spots I’ve been in the past, like Germany.

At this point, I think I’m going to have to say I’ve done this, and start a new goal, “Take vacation regularly” or something like that…

Ok...no timeshare 2 years ago

We cancelled the timeshare purchase because you can get a much better deal on the resale market. We are still going to buy one, but not until after the Disney Cruise in August.

Time to get started... 2 years ago

I bought a timeshare so I would HAVE to take more vacations. We have’t decided on our first destination yet, but it will probably either be Orlando or Hawaii. Someday soon, we will be hitting historic sites on the East Coast and who knows what we will do next.

Well on my way 2 years ago

I’ve been on one so far, have another one around the corner, then one more planned. Going to MB in the fall again, and probably two more around that too. So back into the swing of things. 6 in a year for me is about right.

Set schedule... 2 years ago

...between current employer’s new attendance policy kind of forces my hand in this. It looks to be slim picken’s for much of any vacation let alone “more vacations”. I need a different job…

Life is too short 3 years ago

We didn’t get a chance to take a family vacation this summer. We have been so involved in our work that we haven’t had time to take a break and enjoy life. I want to take at least 2 vacations a year; one in the summer and one in the winter.

We had a weekend getaway 4 years ago

a week and a half ago. It was oh-so-glorious and really not that much $$. We need to do it more often!

Vacations = Money x 2 4 years ago

I think this is my biggest hurdle when it comes to taking vacations. I view them as being twice as expensive as just the money being spent. The reason being is if you take a vacation, you’re not working. If you’re not working that means you’re not being paid or your taking vacation days. Those vacation days are money to me. If I quit, they are converted to money – it’s that simple. Tack on that fact that when you’re on vacation you tend to expunge money twice as fast as you would otherwise. That’s not even counting the change you drop getting to your destination.
