I'm not awesome at recognizing calls  — 1 month ago

    Worth doing!

but I am pretty awesome at knowing by sight local birds. I also read a book called “Bird Brains” about the intelligence of crows, ravens, magpies, and jays (and they are seriously smart birds!) I’m not sure many other people read books about bird intelligence, so I’m presuming that automatically gives me some knowledge about birds that most other people don’t have, thus making this goal complete.

I've picked up a few things...  — 4 months ago

    Worth doing!

I hear a call and I think I know what it is. I need to review a couple of the calls again. But when I was in Montana, I did some bird watching. THEY HAVE MAGPIES! Anyway, I’ve made some progress but do need to focus a bit more on my book and CD for the summer. And refill the bird feeder of course.

I got my library book  — 5 months ago

    Worth doing!

It’s the standard MN bird book that I got for my mom and that I look at when I’m up north, but I also checked out the audio CDs so I can learn to identify a few of the songs. Especially as summer approaches, when our trees leaf out you’re not able to see them as much as you’re able to hear them.

Who knew I liked birds?  — 5 months ago

    Worth doing!

Not me until a year or two ago. I love watching them and was pumped beyond belief to see my first robin a few days ago. But I want to be that girl who can see them at a bird feeder and know what they are, and know their songs too. I have one good book that a friend gave me a year or two ago (when I first admitted liking birds and she thought it was kind of grandmother of me and funny) and I’m going to reserve a library CD of bird calls as well. My parents have land up north that is great for bird watching, so hopefully I can get good at identifying this summer.

    I'm Learning  — 1 year ago

I got two books about birds in my area at the library yesterday. I like looking through them. I think it is so interesting learning about birds. It seems strange that I never tried to learn about them before. I like listening to audio clips of them online. I thought I only wanted to listen to them and look at them, but I found out that I really enjoy learning all about them. I found some cool sites on birds. Here is one if you are interested: http://www.birds.cornell.edu/AllAboutBirds/BirdGuide

I’ve learned a little, but I have a lot more learnin’ to do. I am going to look for a bird book at the library soon.

Recognize the birdsongs  — 1 year ago

Mainly I want to be able to recognize the birds in my area, and the songs that they sing. They sound so pretty. I like animals, and I want to learn more about them. I would then want to learn about all the birds in my state, and maybe the nation. I might become a birdwatcher or something. Who knows. But for now I want to know what kind of bird that is that I am hearing right now, for instance. I think some of them may be cardinals and mocking birds. I’ve wanted to do this for a while, so I am glad this is on my list now. : )
