Find Religion 3 months ago

No matter what the faith should be, I want to find a Religion I can understand, believe and relate most to.

I was raised as a Roman Catholic, and have never found joy or fulfillment from it. I’m looking for a religion that’s a little more accepting. I have been researching, and am sort of interested in Reform Judaism – quite a switch, huh? But who knows what else is out there? That’s what I want to find out.

I’m young and in no rush – I’m just searching for the right path for me. :)

Aquire vast amounts of wealth. 7 months ago

It’d be nice to have money. lots of it. really. they say money doesnt buy happiness. i beg to differ. because bill gates has enough money to seal his tear ducts, not that he needs them anyway because bill gates never cries, when his dad died he mad e a robot of him, so he will always be happy, like me if i had money.

I wanna find religion 7 months ago

religion is a funny thing either you have it or you dont, but i want to find it, im sure there is a god but he isnt the christian god, the god from the old testament is much to vengful to create all life in the universe, so this leads me into doubt, but who knows, there might be a god, and id like to meet him…or her, whatever.

buddhist 10 months ago

Found a zen buddhist meditation center near my house. I’m sure it will be some time (and reading) before I could get up the nerve to go check it out.

Jainism 10 months ago

I’m looking into Jain beliefs. It seems like a good option since I don’t think I could ever commit to a monotheistic religion. I want something I can BELIEVE in, not just practice.

Anyone have any knowledge or experiences they could share with me on Jainism?

Ramadan approaches 14 months ago

Ramadan starts Monday. Got to get pumped. Find the Night of Power. Multiply my good deeds. Praise God.

Some sort of spiritual connection.
I read people who have them are more likely to live longer/be mentally healthy.
I guess I’ve got something like that, I more of looking a for a word for it.
No bible-thrower comments please.

Religion, who needs it? 22 months ago

I am an atheist and proud. I looked at religions from a distance, and realized that none of them are particularly appealing because I really don’t need them. I’m strong enough of mind and spirit to find my own way, solve my own problems. I don’t need an imaginary buddy doing all that for me, or taking th blame when things don’t go right. You cannot hope to to ever get anywhere not taking responsibility.

When I die, I believe nothing will happen. I believe religion was created to explain this away, as no on ever wants to die. The afterlife was a way of softening the blow of death so no one felt bad when Grandma died, so people who were dying at least had something to look forward to. I believe when we die, that’s it. It’s over. It’s not so impossible to get over when you sit and think about it for longer than five minutes. I’m mortal. I have maybe forty more years of life in me before I die. I have no worries about this. I’d like to stay alive as long as I may, but I’m not afraid.

I firmly believe that one does not need to find religion to be a good person. This should be inherent in all of us. It can be as simple as donating money to a charity, or holding the door open for someone. Slapping an ecclesiastical name on it and banging a drum in the name of a Lord does nothing but show off. And, if memory serves, is a Sin, right? Vanity, or something along those lines. Also, doing good for a reward is selfish. If you do work in the name of the Lord, basically you’re doing things to earn brownie points in the afterlife. You’re simply doing this out of self-centered intrest, and according to the bible, this’ll get you a first-class ticket to hell.

I think part of my atheistic beliefs stemmed from all the wars, all the sinning on the part of the Virtuous, and realizing, if there was a God, he or she’d have ended us long ago. Not to mention, people in ages past believed their religon was the right one, and look where they are. Then, people took something that was pure, and perverted it. Wars were declared in the name of God, and millions killed, despite killing being against the so-called Word of God. This goes on, even today in Islam, a “religion of peace”, as long as there are not any sinful Westerners near by. In that case, behead them, for they have called Islam violent! This doesn’t make the prospect of religion any sweeter.

The other part of my beliefs came from the fact that nobody can agree on what is correct. There are so many factions of religion, so many in fact, that no one can be right. That and religious script has changed over the course of human history more times than Micheal Jackson has had a nose job. I thought the word of God was unchangeable? Guess not, because if something doesn’t suit you, you can change it as you see fit.

Nothing lasts forever, not even religion. So, I think I’ll live life and enjoy my time here, not worry about an arbitrary concept invented 2000 years ago to kill other people and have a reason for it.
