How I did it: Grew a chin beard around 3 years ago, I was 17 and in a band, I've had it ever since, now I'm in my final year of University! it was a great experience and I can't imagine not having it now! Read how I did it…

How I did it: I didn't have to do much really. Once I reached puberty, nature merely took it's course. although it did start at patchy and very knackerish, in time, it grew into a full on beard! I'm back to a short stubble now, but it's always great to have the option. Read how I did it…
How I did it: Basicly you just stop shaving. Then you can either do like I did and just let it grow wild without any trimming or shaping, or you can trim it and shape it, but the first is better, in my opinion. That's REALLY growing a beard. ZZ Top style. Read how I did it…

How I did it: 1. Don't shave2. Trim with a beard trimmer3. Don't shave4. Think about using hair conditioner on the beard (it makes it softer)5. Get used to being able to see something on your face.6. Use the beard to hide things7. Avoid getting food in it - runny egg is a particular problemI kept my beard for about 2 years on and off - it has been gone for about 4 months now - I think it will come back again someday Read how I did it…

How I did it: Didn't shave for a month (helps to be unemployed for that month) then broke the beard trying to shape it, shaved it all off, didn't shave for another month, and pretty much successfully shaped it. It is not necessary to require two attempts to grow a beard - your mileage may vary. Read how I did it…

It is probably cheating to put growing a beard as a goal, since you only need to not do anything. But it is my goal anyway, and I’m about six days in. It was a bit embarassing going out on New Year’s Eve with a semi-beard, but it’s coming along quite nicely now.
I’m a week and a half in and my face won’t stop itching. This has been the time in the past that I would shave it off, but I’m determined. ANy suggestions to alleviate the itching? Please?

Beards are such great fun. Facial hair is an amazing thing. With just a little experimentation you can become anyone you like. Try the goetee fro it say I’m cool and hip man, or the light beard that says HA I don’t have to succomb to the perr pressures of the corporate world and can do as I please. Then you alwasy have the full beard that you can play with between your fingers that says I am intelligent and Debonaire. It’s the Sean Connery thing. Then again you can alwasy grow it down to your belly and pretend you play for ZZ top or go on a spirtual quest. Honestly it’s just much more fun to tell your boss to kiss your butt becasue your not shaving today. Better yet A beard is the sign that you are the boss.

I have three weeks off and I’m definitely not shaving!!!
Facial hair is a fickle mistress. I’m approaching an age where I can grow a consistent, not totally patchy beard. I’ve spent a month not shaving in the past, but that ended abruptly with me returning to civilization. Well it’s time to commit. My goal is to grow a beard that works for me. It may take some trial and error, but at this stage of my life, I need a beard to feel more rugged about myself.
I haven’t shaved since July 31st.
I wanted to see if I could actually grow a beard that didn’t look patchy – and was pleased that I could. I went a bit too far into “scary mountain man” territory last winter – this time around I will keep it trimmed to a more civilized length. It was fascinating the reactions I had to it – lots of folks didn’t recognize me, and many more told me that they didn’t like it once I had shaved it off for summer – but I expect it will be back in fall as it did help keep my face warmer and I liked the change.

jakeal asks,
“Is it true that if you shave at some point during the beard-growth process, it will grow in thicker?”
