My last lot of tenants were a nightmare, and so I decided to sell the house, which I did back in July 2007.

I’m living with my girlfriend, but now I don’t own a house, however I would like to get somewhere of my own, so I’m keeping this goal but I’m not likely to be able to do this yet.

home sweet home! 22 months ago

I said i wanted a small house by the beach, and hooray, a year and a bit after seperating from my partner of 15 years, i’ve just done it. i thought i couldn’t afford it unless i sold off the family home, but i’ve managed to find something small and simple enough that i can buy and keep the other place. I’m over the moon!!! The little house is in a very mixed area but i’m ok with that. The street is lovely, with lots of families who seem on the whole pretty house-proud with quite a few really well kept gardens (which means a lot to me!! i intend to plant out the garden first thing after moving in!!) THe backyard is little but it has a covered eating area i can hang out in the cool, and a old garage and shed which i probably will rip down before it falls down, but heh, i like a little DIY project. Kitchen also needs some work but i don’t care, i can get that sorted. The main thing is that it’s got lots of lovely sunlight streaming in the windows, and nice wooden floor boards and a very VERY short stroll to a wonderful beach and the coastline i’ve called home for 15 years and never want to leave….. aaaaaaahhhhhhhhhhhh…..

A little more than a year ago....we bought our first home 2 years ago

A little more than a year ago….we bought our first home. This was stressful and difficult, but well worth it. The events that transpired prior to our home-buying experience should give hope to others who long to buy a home: we had been homeless 2 years before, and gone bankrupt 4 years prior to applying for a loan.
We live near Asheville, NC. The cost of housing here is notoriously high, but we managed to find a nice home we can afford (at 6.25%), with a mountain view in Winter, privacy, and all of the modern amenities we love.
This just proves one can manifest their dreams, sometimes out of little more than sheer will!
Also get a mortgage broker who is just as caustic and repugnant as a Shark…..it is WORTH IT!

sounds like a plan sorta 2 years ago

Looking at buying a house as an investor does not seem like a good idea but looking at it from a average joe point of view it does seem appealing.

Given the student loans I have yet to even start paying back, this is obviously a super-long-term goal. But I am very serious about it.

All Change... 3 years ago

Well, the potential tenants turned out to want to buy a place, so I spent the last month and a half redecorating as the house was looking dull and tired. After advertising in the local paper, I now have another couple that have moved in, one less thing to worry about.

This goal is going to therefore become a long term aim, for now I have proven that I don’t have enough money as just paying the bills while it was empty for a month and a half has sapped all my income and left me with bigger debts :-(

Consider this now as on hold…
