I love animals more than people. Enough said.
How I did it: My husband and I had one of our cats run away from us and thought that our one cat that we had left would get lonely. So, we went to the local animal shelter and spent a lot of time looking at all of the cats. We really took the time to assess each cat's personality so that we could get one that would mesh well with our cat at home. When we found the perfect kitty, we filled out some forms, put his harness and leash on and took him home. Now the kitty, Pumpkin, is a great and loved member of our family. See his picture I uploaded?
Lessons & tips: Adopting animals is so rewarding! Be prepared to fill out a questionnaire because most places require that. Some have a "background check" where they confirm that you have a job and are allowed to have pets at your current residence. Remember that you might not get your pet the day you want it. They might have a process they have to go through. Make sure you have money for an adoption fee, because most places charge one. I had to pay $10 but have seen adoption fees up to $70.

I adopted Pumpkin, my little orange and white kitty, last fall and he has really made life a lot of fun. Not only do I have the wonderful feelings of knowing that I helped a homeless animal that was sitting in an animal shelter, just wanting a warm home, I also have a friend. He has been a great friend to my other cat and keeps life interesting. He is so full of energy and life that he keeps us all in a more positive and happy mood. He is really one of the lights of my life.
He is my first adopted cat and I would love to do it again. It really was worth the adoption fee.
It saddens me to see these animals that are tossed aside just because their owners don’t think they’re up to their standards or they just simply don’t want them. I’ve always wanted to adopt an animal who has been abused and show them that there are good people who care for them.

I adopted a dog once, and it ran away. I really want to do it again though.
Adopting a homeless animal from a shelter or rescue group is one of the most rewarding experiences. It feels good to save a life and make a difference to that animal!
Until there are none, adopt one!
I adopted a cat last summer from the humane society and today I just adopted a polar bear from the wwf. Right now I’m marking this as done but I plan to adopt more animals in the future.
I’ve always loved animals but never had the financial means to take care of one on my own, but now I do! I’m going to talk with the local animal shelter and see what I can do.
