Funny in a way once I started working on this other goal this goal seems to have completed itself overnight. I wonder if there is a connection here? ;)

Song and dance 21 months ago

I’m not really sure what woke me up, but when I awoke, I had a song running through my head. It was a song I’d never heard, a song that was missing most of the words. Feeling sorry for the song, I decided to find it some more words so it could be complete. In my semi-conscious(and somewhat sleep deprived) state, I’m half convinced I subconsciously stole some of those words from some other song, but I can’t for the life of me think of the song…

Anyway, it’s a pretty simple song, and it’s the first time I’ve ever tried to write a song. I’m not really sure if you can get the tune I was going for just from seeing the words… maybe one day I’ll learn to write music too… and then play it on my guitar…

    You Said “I AM”

I said I’m here Lord and I’m willing
But I’m not sure I can
I have no strength within me
I am not but a man

    You said “I AM”.

You are the Alpha and Omega
    Beginning and the End
    Forever Everlasting
    On You I can depend

I said I’m ready Lord to follow you
    Lead onwards to the goal
The wind and rain about me
Lord I am not in control

    You said “I AM”.

You are the Alpha and Omega
    Beginning and the End
    Forever Everlasting
    On You I can depend

I say Lord consume me in your presence
Renew my thirst for you each day
Wrap your loving arms around me
Cast my fear and doubt away

    You say “I AM”

You are the Alpha and Omega
    Beginning and the End
    Forever Everlasting
    On You I will depend

    Poetry? 2 years ago

I’ve NEVER even tried doing poetry aside from the one time that I had to write a poem for my English class in High School. However, I think that would be a cool skill to have. So, a couple days ago, I decided to try my hand at it. Tell me what you think… and be honest.

When found before him on that day,
In all his splendor, I shall kneel.
When all evil is cast away,
    I can’t imagine how I’ll feel,
To hear those words that he will say,
“Upon your heart was placed my seal,
For you know Christ, My Son, The Way!”

    Haven't forgotten 2 years ago

I kind of stopped posting in here as abruptly as I started. It’s not because I forgot about this goal, or even stopped working on it. I used the new challenge feature on 43T to challenge myself to write a book. So most of the writing I’ve been doing has been going towards that.

    Well 2 years ago

I haven’t exactly written anything else using prompts in the past few days. I have done some other stuff though.

First, I’ve joined the site critters.org which is a workgroup for people who want to become professional writers. I don’t necessarily want to make a living with my writing(though the ability to do so would be cool). I would like to be able to say I’ve sold something I wrote, so I joined this workshop. The way it works is that all of the members critique the works of other members in exchange for being able to have their works critiqued. I’m hoping both receiving critiques and the process of giving them will help improve my writing.

The other thing I’ve done, I hinted at in my last entry. I started coming up with a list of possible writing prompts. Hopefully I will eventually be able to put them on a website where they will be accessible to others as well. At the moment, it’s not a very bit list… but you’ve gotta start somewhere. Right?

I found something the internet seems to be lacking. 2 years ago

Over the past days, I’ve been searching for a website with a good(matter of opinion I suppose) compilation of writing prompts. I find a bunch of them with prompts like “Write about a time you…” Those kinds of prompts don’t really appeal to me. I might like to do one every once in a while, but those are almost the only prompts I find anywhere.

I have found a site or two that have some good prompts but it’s still not as many of them as it seems like there should be. Of all the random useless things you can find on the internet, I’m kind of sad that I’m having trouble finding a good lot of writing prompts. It makes me want to create a website for that purpose. That way it would both help me, and others.

If anyone wants to help with that in any way, I would appreciate it. I could use anything from money to pay for domain/hosting to submissions of writing prompts you think I should put on the site.

Writing prompt 2 2 years ago

Alright, I found a second writing prompt today. The prompt was to Write about an empty glass.

“That’s the last of it,” she told herself as she set the now empty glass on the table. She sat there a few moments eating the crumbs that remained on the plate, savoring each morsel, wishing she could have more.

Soon, even the crumbs had been eaten and she realized she was running out of time. She needed to be out of there within thirty minutes. She could not be late again, or she would be in trouble.

Leaving her dirty dishes on the table, she took a quick shower and threw on some wrinkled clothes. She quickly pulled her hair into a ponytail while she rushed around the apartment searching for her shoes. Each time she passed the kitchen, she noticed the empty dishes, reminding her she was still hungry. Finally, she retrieved her shoes, which had been kicked under the bed, and slid them on her feet.

Passing the kitchen one last time, she hurriedly cleared her dishes on the way out. A glance at the clock sent her running out the door, only to return. She’d left her bag on the couch. As she slung her backpack over one shoulder, her stomach growled reminding her she needed her to pick up another gallon of milk and a box of poptarts after class.

Once again, it obviously would’ve been better if I’d spent more time on it(or proofread it…), but I’m just trying to practice writing about random topics not necessarily making it perfect each time.

This one didn’t end up very long, and didn’t really end up being about the glass, but I think it still counts. When I started I was going to really make it about someone who was starving and didn’t have any food. Then I decided to switch to a college student who had forgotten to pick up their “groceries” :)

    Writing prompts 2 years ago

Well, I’m having trouble sleeping tonight(what else is new). I don’t see sleep coming anytime soon. So, I figure I might as well start working on this. I’m going to find a writing prompt and write a short little thing about it. Hopefully I can get myself in the habit of doing this more regularly(not sure what frequency to shoot for yet).

Now I’m off to find the prompt.

EDIT: Alright, I did a quick search and clicked on a random site that offers free creative writing prompts. Then I took a random prompt off of that site. Incase anyone is interested in following allong with me, the prompt I came up with is:

    Write about a blue-colored object.
