Almost done. I got all covers, and setup a process to rate songs as I listen to them. Genres are fixed, as well as Artist names. Still have to make capitalization consistent across the library, will have to use a script for that.

Note to self: Use sentence style capitalization, with a black list of words to ignore.

It's a blummin mess  — 4 weeks ago

- Delete the songs i don’t even like
- Sort out artist playlists
- Sort out album playlists
- Get album artwork for every song
- Fill in genre for all my songs

computer change  — 2 months ago

I changed my mac a few months ago and I don’t know why but I couldn’t import my Itunes library as it was…
Anyway I’m reordering again all the songs.
Now I have 116 albums without cover and 225 songs without a proper name or album or artist (sometimes none of the three!).
But I have 2056 songs, so it doesn’t seem so bad after all!

Worth doing!

It takes a long time, you need dedication and motivation. It got to the point where I was running back to my computer at every spare minute to organise it a bit more.
A good tip for genre entries: I used to lable songs with a genre 1 by 1. Until I realised I could Highlight a bunc, go to “File” “Get info” and assign a genre to loads at the same time.

well, i had started doing this, but then i switched my library over to a different computer, and the changes didn’t transfer… so now i have to start over

This task has expanded beyond my original anticipation. I had intended to quickly browse through my library and find all those annoying instances where iTunes had created album or artist duplications due to a hidden space or other miniscule difference. I also intended to clean up the genre index to the extent that a single artist was classified under a single genre.

I have since expanded my systemization to include the download of the related album art, an unexpectedly time consuming task. After a solid hour of work I have only made it through the albums beginning with numbers and A’s.

While it is much additional work it is a satisfying task. The digitalization of music has created many benefits and conveniences but for me personally it has removed some of the visual associations. By reconnecting the visual graphics with the music I have been reminded of many memories long forgotten.

120+  — 11 months ago

Ok, i counted my not-organized albums…more than 120…it’s really a lot of work but it just satisfy me to see the albums i’ve already organized with their covers!!

step one done!  — 11 months ago

Worth doing!

last night i managed to be able to get through all the songs i have and delete the ones i don’t listen to… my ipod is 400-500 songs lighter. now i just need to make my playlists, which are not so creatively entitled: aww, roar!, whee!, and maybe some other ones. and i have to get rid of the old playlists i made for shows i already went to or am not going to.
