My sofa has come in! 10 months ago

I feel like a real householder now, not the fly-by-night apartment dweller that I’ve been for the last who-knows-how-many years. I still live in an apartment, but at least it has somewhere to sit besides that old easy chair.

For those who are ready to commit to owning a big piece of furniture, I’d recommend two things: First, look up all the information on sofa quality. There’s lots of information online about what frame, spring action, upholstery, and filling to look for. Second, know the market and wait for a sale price. I looked at a lot of stores and monitored prices and quality for months before finding the sofa I wanted at a drastically reduced price. I feel like I lucked out, but that luck wouldn’t have come my way if I hadn’t done my homework on this.

    Hooray for large, cushiony objects!

    Never had one . . . 20 months ago

unless you count the loveseat-shaped object that my dad loaned me when I was in grad school. It was made of foam on the inside and unfolded flat on the floor to make a sort of bed. But it was sunken in the middle, and you couldn’t really sit on it comfortably. That, in my opinion, is not a couch. It is a modified cushion. I’ve been living like a graduate student (while only intermittently being one) for too, too long. I need a real sofa, people: a long, strong, spring-filled, cushiony place to sit and maybe even lie down. What I’m saying is, I guess it’s time for me to officially own some grown-up furniture for a change.
