I did a week long intensive as part of my massage theerapy program and thoroughly enjoyed it. i am certainly not an expert & will do further training before charging for treatments, but i have the basics & can use some of the techniques now.
i plan on receiving many thai treatments to expand my understaning of it. i recommend everyone give it a try.

Finished the two-day course, it was very cool! Now I’m considering doing a one-year basic training to learn even more!

This weekend’s course got cancelled because there were only two applicants. Now I have to wait till April to take the course. Oh well, nothing to do about it.

I became interested in this when I got a massage at work, and when I mentioned I loved certain aspects she did, she told me it was Thai massage. As I also love doing yoga, I reckon it’s a wonderful way to combine massage and yoga. There’s going to be this weekend-long introductory course which is relatively cheap (100 euro) and my boyfriend would like to learn (about) it as well, so I think I’m going to sign up for the both of us!

thai massage is an element of the massage therapy program i will be starting in the fall so i should get the basics. i have a cd from my friend who learned it in thailand as well.
i’d love to be able to just go to the source & learn. the courses are much less expensive actually…but the time & money to get there is a hurdle.
oh to be independently wealthy & travel the world studying! a girl can dream.

Hi, I recently completed a Basic Thai Massage Course in Bangkok at the Wat Po Massage School. I highly recommend this course for anyone thinking of making a career in Massage. Other than the cost of airfare, it an extremely easy and cheap way to do it.
The courses information is available at www.watpomassage.com
Each of the courses last for 5 days (10-day courses are also available for some). The classes are fun and relaxed. It’s better if you can speak English but it’s not absolutely necessary. After completing the 30 hour course you take a short test and receive your certificate. The basic massage class costs 7,000 baht (at the moment, prices are subject to change) which is about $170.
I live in Thailand already so housing was not an issue, but I suspect for foreigners the most difficult thing will be housing. There are some hotels near the temple but I’m unsure of costs. If you’re into “roughing it” there are extremely cheap hostels throughout the area with all the basic necessities. Courses start at nine o’clock a.m. and end at four o’clock p.m. with an hour for lunch in the middle. You can register for class the ‘day of’ and a thai food lunch buffet is available for about 30 baht (around 75 cents American).
Hope this was helpful (if it’s not, I blame my sleepiness), if you have anymore specific questions feel free to email me at fromderek2u@yahoo.com, not quaranteeing that I’ll be able to get back to you, but I’ll try.

Thai bodywork is an amazing modality and is definitely worth studying! Seek out a reputable teacher that has a lot of experience because there are far too many people teaching classes after only doing weekend and week long intensives. Also, though it is jus my opinion, one should have months of study before they accept payment for their service. Just having 100 or so hours is not enough to be proficient in this art. Study anatomy, pathology, Thai culture, and as much technique and theory as you can before starting your practice. There are some teachers that offer free internship periods and great resources available to aspiring practitioners.
