become a zoologist

I have loved animals all my life. I have a special connection with them, that amazes people. For example, when i was younger living in Turkey, lost cats or dogs would come near me not afraid, while they stayed away from others. I once had a cat die in my arms, while licking my hand. After that experience, I just have this need to help them in any way possible. I just have a better relationship with animals then people, i’m comfortable with them no matter how wild they are.

Lately I have been wanting to be a marine Biologist, But i had heard about becoming a Zoologist. I have loved animals all my life, not once have i ever hurt an animal. When i think of a Zoologist i think of helping animals and seing how they live. I am only 13 and im allready thinking about my career. I want to become a Zoologist because of my love for animals, especially Wild animals and the animals that live at the zoo. I just want to work with animals, and learn more about them. I want to be a pro when it comes to animals.

There’s a lot of prep work involved in this before I even get into university. My HSC (the AU tertiary prep qualification) was heavily biased toward the humanities, and honestly, so is my brain. I need to get Year 12 level qualifications in Chemistry, Maths, and Biology before I can qualify for entry into the course – and I have to get at least distinction level in those. I can do this. My dad was an engineer, so I must have at least some genetic predisposition towards logic and science. Last time I was at Uni I did English Literature, Philosophy and History, and I’m pretty intimidated by science and maths. I’m not naturally good at them (I don’t think I am, anyway) but frankly I think that would be a bad reason to let this dream go. Hard work, I’ve found, always produces results. (Lordy, that sounds didactic)
I have one year left in my veterinary nursing course and I’m going to finish that. Either I’ll find I have the time and energy to complete some of the qualifications I need for entry into uni during this year or I’ll wait till 2009. Either way is okay with me, as long as I have some kinda plan and follow it, I will get there.
