They are barely old enough for kindergarten, however time is ticking and I need to gain the confidence.

How I did it: i had said when my son was in utero that i wanted to homeschool. due to constraints with time and money, he was enrolled in public school for kindergarten. shortly after thanksgiving, i withdrew him from the same school to teach him at home.i did a lot of research on the internet. i had spent a few years working as an ECE teacher with toddlers, so i reached out to some of my colleagues who had worked with older children. How I did it: I got support!!!I looked for a lot of groups online and in my area and loved the way I saw the children treating each other. I have two boys, one is currently 14, skipping high school and taking college courses. My other son is 8, and teaching himself how to read (with some assistance!) My older son was a "late" reader as well.Remember learning can include: reading a book, doing a cross word puzzle, building a dam in a brook, baking,… Read how I did it…

mariahatescupcakes is slowly but surely improving her life.
I am homeschooled. I’m still young, but when I have kids, I’m homeschooling them. No matter what.
and can’t do it on my own…especially with the opposition I’m getting from that other person. (The kids’ dad.) Being a single mom, I have to work. They’re at their dad’s house half the time, and they go to school. Oh well. It’s not the end of the world. We still do a lot. And hey-I’m taking that credit for teaching them how to read at 4 anyway! So there!
I love the idea of having my 5 kids around me daily. When they were in public school, they were away for too many hours a day. Now, they’re here with me, and we’re all happy. Even the little kids, who aren’t in school yet, are enjoying life!
I’ve finally decided it’s time to start. The big kids like school too much, but #3 is old enough now to start Kindergarten, and I will homeschool him this year. He is almost 5, and he is reading at a late grade 2/early grade 3 level. He has read 3 Magic Tree House books in the last 2 weeks. Academically, he will be way ahead of the class.
Socially, he has a way to go. He is very independent, and stubborn, preferring to do things his own way – to the point of being aggressive. He also is not the best at playing co-operatively.
I forsee many potential problems with this combinaton, even though he would have a wonderful kindergarten teacher – she is a sweet, grandmotherly woman, and a friend of mine, (who promised to hang up on me if I call her to tell her that I will be homeschooling him.) Therefore, I am going to give homeschooling a try, and see what we can do.
My son thinks homeschooling would be great – although he seems to think that he will be playing lots of computer games.
Wish me luck?

My oldest is 17 and will start college this fall. My youngest is 9 and there are 3 more in between. None of them have spend a single day in public school and are doing just fine emotionally, educationally and most important, SOCIALLY. Yes, they are very well socialized without public education.
although my daugher is now grown and having childen of her own i still fondly remember the year i homeschooled her.
it was such a great time. we have great memories of that year
if its at all possible and good for your children do it at least one year.
This one is obviously a ways off, seeing as how I’m not even pregnant with our first child yet. But it is something I’ve been thinking about a lot lately, and I really think I’d like to. My husband isn’t fully convinced yet, but I think he’s starting to come around. I still have a lot of reservations about it, but I know there will be pros and cons to whatever we decide. I guess I still have plenty of time to come to a final decision, and even when we do, nothing is set in stone. If I try it and it doesn’t work, then we scrap the idea and send him/her off to school. It’s not an all or nothing thing.
Not all people are equiped to homeschool their own kids and not all kids are suitable for homeschooling. One thing is for sure though, if after all the debates and thinking and talking….. you decide homeschooling would be the best thing for your child then do it!!!! You will be so glad you do. People are too afraid to take matters into their own hands. And please realize how lucky you are to be living in a place that allows homeschooling. Many countrys outlaw it!!! And I am not talking about backward, oppressed thinking countries, I am talking, Germany, Italy, EU countries!!! ummhh Maybe these are backward oppressed countries after all
