.... to acknowledge now, while I’m young, that it will happen. There are some people out there who seriously don’t seem to understand that old age will more than likely reach them someday. They seem to think they will always be young. And I think it’s harder on those people when they get old. Especially if, when they were young, they considered old people to be useless. So I think one step in achieving this goal is to respect my elders now for all they are worth!
How to grow older gracefully
How I did it: There’s that saying, “Age is only a number.”
Yes, now I feel better, “Age is only a number,” and my number is 38. Not too old!
I find that the most important thing about growing old gracefully is, “acceptance.” Yes, accepting the fact that we all grow old and that it is a part of life. If we accept that one fact we can grow old gracefully. Oh, it isn’t an easy pill to swallow. We would all love to keep our youthful appearances and still be able to physically do all of the things that we used to do. But, let’s face it the old body just isn’t up to some of those things. “Acceptance,” is key to survival of our golden years!
Acceptance doesn’t mean defeat. No, you can accept growing old and you can still be as youthful in your heart and your life as you choose to be – that’s the positive thing about growing old. That young girl or young boy is still spiritually inside of you. You still want to look as good as you can; you still want to be successful in all that you do. You are at the age of, “wisdom,” where all things are possible! This is the time in your life where dreams still can come true; age can’t take your dreams away from you.

I’m aware of this goal on a regular basis, there’s just not much to write about it. I think if I focus on my other goals and make room for interesting new ones, I will be working on this by proxy.
So it’s leaving the list.

I know that when I eat better, I feel better.
I had been eating more crap than usual earlier this year. Now I am going to focus more on cooking at home – real food tastes so much better!
I do enjoy cooking from scratch, but I’m sure if I had to cook every day, it’d take all the fun out of it.
Today I made red kidney bean curry, it was way tastier than I expected, and I know it was healthy because I know exactly what went into it!!

I just developed hayfever! I’d made it to the ripe old age of 31 and a half!! without a single allergy. Thought I was safe. This sux.
I hope at least I’m allergic to something that’s specific to Japan, not something that I’ll encounter again every spring until the end of time (in Canada)...

It would be a lot easier to grow old gracefully if I didn’t still get the occasional pimple :-(

This is weird, but – over the past few months I have noticed that my eyes seem to be changing colour. I’m 31, my eyes have always been blue (fairly light blue). But recently I have a gold coloured ring in each of my eyes. It’s weird – I never noticed it before.
Yuck, I really don’t want yellow eyes. Can people even HAVE yellow eyes? I think I’m turning into a cat.
Green eyes would be cool… but NOT stripey yellow!

Perhaps I have some little health glitches. Y’know, non serious things that can very easily be put off, and will heal on their own in time… but I really should start paying more attention to my vitamin intake, and stuff like that.
I think it’s also time to become more attuned to my body. You know those people who can say:- “Oh, it feels like my period will start tomorrow”...? or
- “if I eat cheese/chocolate/something else, it affects my skin.”, or
- actually notice that they have mild side effects from medicine, such as retaining water, increased irritability, etc.
I am definitely not one of those people. I have no clue about these things. Yet!
I’ve been getting tired really easily lately. I don’t know if that’s a result of feeling stressed recently, or one of the factors causing the stress.
Should start going to the chiropractor weekly for the month of December too.

that a big part of this goal is that I’d honestly like to be able to do ANYTHING gracefully :-/
:-D

Another part of this goal is to continue learning (which I’ve also listed separately). I want to keep building my understanding of the world and how it works. I find it fascinating, and often mind-boggling, but always a worthy challenge.
I’ve become much more interested in human nature in recent years. Human nature and society’s influence on it (for better or worse) often frustrates me, but I like to explore such things from different angles. When I’m able to, of course. We all have our blind spots, unfortunately.
Might as well also admit that for me, continual personal development is also part of my definition of growing older gracefully (whups, I almost wrote “gratefully”, but I guess that’s highly relevant too!). But that’s a long slow process :-)
I’m aiming for complete peace of mind… eventually!
- Yeah, I know, castles in the sky.

People always think I’m younger than I am, and it bugs me, because when they say “Oh I thought you were about 5 years younger…” it just sounds like a lame platitude.
It’s getting to the point where I want to keep my age a secret, but only because I’m tired of the way people feel compelled to make a comment on it. (I.e. assumption is that everyone who’s 30 will be flattered by being told they look younger, because who would be happy to look 30?!).
I don’t have a problem with my age, but it seems that society and the people I meet, do.
Irritating.
