I thought it was just something weird about me, until I got the bright idea to google it… I am not extraordinarily terrified of them but they do bother me a lot and I can’t bear to touch them.
For me, I think this stemmed from either watching a show in which it was shown how a type of moths could lay their eggs in animal’s skin or this one time I tried to kill a moth in my room, but when I took the tissue away from where I had squished it, I found it actually was not dead but instead flying toward my face. To this day I can not be in the same room as a moth without watching it to make sure it does not come near me.

yeah i hate them to, every time i hear the word moth i will start shaking or shivering im shaking a little bit now. If i see one i will run away screaming. Its embarrasing when im outside alone and someone is passing me in the street when I see a moth near me and start frantically screaming and running about wafting my arms and screwing my face up. My mates think im over reacting but im not.Im also scared of butterflies… i know its pathetic!!

I hate moths so freakin much!! I’m 14 years old and I’ve been afraid of them ever since I can remember. My sisters always call me a big baby because I’m afraid of moths but I seriously cry if one gets near me! Once a big ugly one flew into my house around 1 a.m. and I stayed up until 5 in the morning trying to kill it!! I never did kill it though… I seriously feel like the moths know I’m scared of them because every time one is within my eyesight range they immediately have to fly towards me!! Ugh I feel so stupid for being so scared of them but I can’t handle even looking at one w/o feeling really scared… It sucks!

Embarrassing
Well, I am dreadfully afraid of moths. I only have one other phobia, and otherwise, nothing really scares me. I even do research on the paranormal, and have had my fair share of what I would call “experiences”. They scare me yes, but I press on and investigate. Yet, a tiny (sometimes) furry bug scares me. Worst of all, I’m almost 20…and I’m a guy. Not a small guy either. This has become so embarrassing for me. Just then, I went to my room, to get ready to sleep, and I have what I would like to call “insanely perceptive moth radar”. I go in my room, and I know something is up, then in the corner of my eye, I see something dark going for the light. Boom. I’m out of the room, and I shut the door behind me. I won’t venture to my room tonight, and until I get someone to kill it (yes, I’m that pathetic), I’ll probably be doing other things in the place until then. I’ll most likely sleep on the couch. It’s always nice for the guy to be a sort of “protector” of the woman he is with, and I feel I can do that, but it kills me to notify the woman I am with, or have them find out in the moment, by seeing me get “wide-eyed” and flee the premises, when a moth is there. I always get the jokes from them and my friends, and it’s terrible. Hopefully I won’t have to deal with this fear forever. I feel like a total wuss because of this. haha

I’ve hated moths ever since I was a child. There’s just something about them that creeps the hell out of me! I’ve had my share of bad experiences with moths… some more disgusting than others. Once, when I was about 3/4 years old, I was eating frosted flakes. It was morning, I was eating and eating. but I didn’t notice that when I dipped my spoon into the cereal and brought it up to my mouth, that there was a small moth heading towards my mouth… still alive. Needless to say, The fluttering of moth wings in your mouth is the worst thing any moth hater could ever endure. Another experience I had was actually, Reaching into my pocket to pull out the lint from inside to find about 2 or 3 moths in my hand when I brought it out. ! of them was half crushed because of my hand and the other 2 decided to crawl up my arm!!!! it was terrifying. I am 16 years old. My friends tease me WITH moths. My gf is supportive but she doesn’t fully understand. It’s good to know, moth phobia isn’t just plaguing me.

I have always had a huge fear of moths, I really hate them. I think one must of landed on my face when I was a baby or something; a lot of people find it irrational and tease me about it. Whenever there is a moth in the room, I will run away screaming. If there is one in the bedroom when I am trying to go to sleep I would have to go sleep in another room. Luckily my boyfriend will get rid of them for me as he knows how scared they make me. For some reason I don’t mind butterflies and woudlnt be bothered if one landed on me. I never understood this. I think its because moths fly at your face and butterflies are more graceful?? I tried to get over my fear by attempting to go to sleep in a room with a moth, but it crawled onto my hand! I screamed and ran out of the room! I don’t like some other flying things – a guy chased me round my office with a drone recently and I burst out crying! How embarrassing – I am 29 years old

glad to find this site with all moth-haters like me…i got freak out whenever i see one. There has been this fucking moth 5cm wide in diameter cling on my bathroom wall. Well i was so silly enough to assume it will fly away next morning since it’s nocturnal insect..
next morning i went into the toilet as if nothing there at all, brushing teeth and daily stuffs . Later that night, i got freak out when i took a bath, the creepy hairy demon was there, rested in front of me on the plumbing pipe. i was so scared that i might fly towards me but cant help i was showering! imagine u were left naked with the creepiest creature in ur life! i get goose pimple thinking of it…luckily i managed to escape after a quick shower…
well, it’s still there by the way…for many days…any idea how do i get rid of it without killing it? (that’s the last resort i would attemp anyway)

..i cannot express enough hatred towards these ugly flying/crawling demons. Just 10 minutes ago i was rinsing a bowl.. when a medium sized moth crawled out of the sink! I screamed and dropped the bowl, when i got to a safe distance i realized that i was shaking (common). My mom killed it after 2 tries, and minutes later another one appeared above the kitchen sink. Later there was a large one on the door.
This is my most, most recent moth story, there’s been much worse, but it would take too long to type.
I’m fine with most insects; except: grasshoppers (esp. the flying ones) and crickets. I haven’t seen that many cockroaches in my life, so I don’t know about them. But /THE/ worse is a MOTH!
I don’t know if this fear goes away with time? I don’t know if therapy helps.. has any one tried it with a success story?
I also hate it when people don’t take this seriously… sigh
I’m going to sleep, hopefully alone… :I

There was a HUGE moth in my room last night. I was getting a benadryl out of my bag and then it just flew at me! I ran out screaming and tried to convince my father to kill it for me, but by the time I got him there, it was gone.
O.o
I haven’t been sleeping well…
