This weekend I caught a show by Les “Survivorman” Stroud about his family’s adventure to live off the grid. I find this so appealing yet so out of reach for me. But sustainability and living a green lifestyle is something I have been thinking about a lot lately. So as of this weekend, we have a recycle bin that I am going to haul to the drop-off which is just around the corner from the house. I am also composting yard waste and veggie scraps for my garden (we’ll see how that goes). We try not to waste energy in the home, we have a programmable thermostat, we changed out our energy sucking windows and our electric bill is $40/mo at it’s lowest, but in the summer it can go as high as $160/mo. So I am trying to figure out ways to cut that without being utterly miserable from the FL. heat. We also have a tankless water heater so it heats on demand. I am also on Freecycle trying to pass on items that I don’t need/use anymore. It’s a start and I am going to gradually do more (hubby is doubtful at best).
