Since we won’t be spending Christmas together, S. and I decided to exchange gifts on January 1, when we will meet in Orlando. We were both happy with this decision instead of doing it beforehand (we’re not much into Christmas for the sake of giving/receiving gifts anyway), and we like the thought of a fresh New Year starting with a little, but meaningful, gift exchange.
I managed to finish the scarf I have been working on (I use the term “working” in a very loose sense) since last year.
For the second scarf, I decided on a bulkier weight yarn and bigger needles, which made knitting a lot faster (and I am happier with the results).
I am disproportionately happy to be done with this goal and checking it off my list.

I knit in slow motion. I learned to knit not too long ago and this would be my first finished project. This weekend, I learned to change yarn. Youtube taught me. With all this said, I still want to finish this before I leave for the U.S. and I want to give it to S. for Christmas.
If there is one goal that I will check off by the end of the year, it WILL be this one. It has to be.

In order to encourage myself along, I picked up some neat knobbly yarn and some larger needles and zipped through a scarf. Finished it knitting it, added some fringe and called it done. It was nice to have something be completed. Gave good motivation to working on the Dr Who scarf, which I’ve been doing. Got about 3 inches done yesterday, and started cleaning up the loose ends from all the color changes. Made it past the halfway point of the pattern, which was cheering. I’m going to try to get at least another 6 inches done this weekend, just to keep making good strides on it.

I grew up watching Doctor Who, specifically the Tom Baker episodes, and have always wanted a scarf just like his…and I’m about halfway towards having one. I’m currently conflicted because I have a goal of not buying anything new, but I also need a new knitting needle since the tip of one of my has started to splinter (too much carrying it on the bus, I guess). Maybe I’ll take the sandpaper to the needle and see if I can get it back in good shape, and if not fork over the money. It’s not that expensive to buy, but I’d still like to avoid buying new things as much as I can.
