Because they’ve meant so much to me for so long. Thank you 2004 Red Sox. Thank you Dave Roberts, Keith Foulke, David Ortiz, Manny Ramirez, Curt Schilling, and everyone else who made last October so special.
I’d waited my whole life. My dad had waited his whole life. The only person I know who was around for 1918 is my Uncle Dick, and he was too young to remember much.
Now we all have memories.
the post Sox WC parade was one of the best vibes I’ve felt in a crowd ever. Everyone there was so happy, and thankful – a real love fest between the team and the city. There are several known baseball cities, and Boston certainly qualifies, but here… it’s a baseball region. Old timers sitting on their porches in VT, NH, Maine were rocking away the years of memories past listening to this one. Eight and nine year olds fresh from their first (and hopefully only) memorable disappointment were asking their parents to let them stay up late. And everyone in between was just enjoying the moment. I was not born a Sox fan, in fact the other team I cherish was the very team the Sox had to beat in the WS so it was a bit bittersweet, but the region needed the win more than the Cards fandom.
The finish was dramatic with the Yankees, and it was as though the spirits of baseball had said, Enough – this is the Sox’ time. I hope that the fans of other great baseball teams awaiting their long sought after moment can experience this soon. The Yankees need to be on a 26 year hiatus out of World Series success – so when it comes around again, which I don’t doubt it will, more of their fans will appreciate the effort and achievment rather than assuming it was theirs by entitlement.
bostonian71 is officially Jewish!
A perfect ending to the best baseball playoffs I’ve ever watched, especially after the previous season’s heartbreaker in Game 7 against the Yankees. Knowing just how much can turn on a missed call or botched play (and remembering the Sox’s own comeback from three games down) kept me from taking the Cards for granted, and made the sweep that much more exciting. It was a long 86 years, but worth the wait.
Aaron going to be apple picking.
Feels so damn good.
Here are the pix I took for the world series parade.
