Transferring... 2 years ago

I hope I could transfer to UCD this fall so I could go back to Shanghai this summer. That’s a commitment I made with my mom. And I could live and study with Coco.

I’m a fourth year student at UCD (it’s my last quarter here) and I have loved it. I have no regrets about coming here for college. The atmosphere is excellent, the campus feels like you are walking around a huge park, and there are opportunities to do whatever you want. It’s truly a wonderful school. :o)

Applications:
Get good grades, volunteer, show leadership abilities, mentor & teach, create, submit works for publication. Ask for help on your personal statement. Be on time! Get finincial aid or scholarships!

Now, it’s getting through college that’s going to be the problem hehe.

Why it was worth it to get into Davis & go to Davis:
First of all, stop thinking about how you didn’t get into Berkeley, into UCLA, etc etc. And start thinking about what you really want out of life.

A lot of people do feel disconnected, especially if you’ve come from a suburb or a big city, but… make an effort to call people up. Make them get ice cream with you at Ben and Jerry’s! Join organizations. This is a cool town: cars stop for you as you j-walk across the street! And, when you smile at random people on campus, they smile back. (How many UC campus’ have that?) Davis students are probably the most honest people when it comes to lost and found stuff: I’ve had my cell phone & wallet returned to the lost & found a billion times, in my inattentiveness. Social science professors are pretty much always happy for people to visit during office hours for a chat. And, we’ve got double decker busses and bikes dangit, haha. Seriously, just come and see what it’s like. Don’t underestimate a “cowtown” for its fun. If there isn’t fun around you, you make your own fun.

Academically:

I’ve been only in the social sciences circuit so I can only speak for them. But, it’s a challenge, in the good way. I’ve learned more about the world through my professors, friends, classmates, art than a little high school World History class ever would. The internship center is AWESOME here, too.
