One thinks from the description its going to be organy or at least meaty, but it’s not at all. It’s much more grainy and spicy. Nutty and peppery.
And the vegetarian haggis (as suggested by the intrepid Taz) is superb. I recommend it highly. 12 months ago

How I did it: I went to Edinburgh, asked someone at the front desk of my hostel where to go, then had me some haggis! All my life I'd heard horrifying stories about sheep offal steeped in a stomach, so my expectations were not the highest. The dish looked innocuous enough: a mound of ground meat and grain accompanied by neeps and tatties (mashed turnips and potatoes). It smelled inviting, so I after a sip of Scotch for courage I closed my eyes, took a deep breath, and tucked in. The taste was nutty, seasoned, and a little spicy like black pepper. I also ordered Scotch eggs, which required a bit of ketchup, but overall I was quite satisfied with my meal.
The next day I also tried some vegetarian haggis on a baked potato that came highly recommended, and surprisingly I liked that better. The flavor was remarkably similar, but it was less greasy. My friend who's had a traumatizing experience with liver and has steered clear of any strange animal organs since tried it and gave it her seal of approval as well.

Hurray for completing my first goal! It was an easy one, but so what.
I actually went above and beyond, since I had both regular haggis as well as vegan haggis. There wasn’t much of a difference, but I actually think I preferred the vegan stuff. 18 months ago

How I did it: Went to Celtfest, found a stand selling haggis, bought and devoured said haggis.
Then ate Mum's extra haggis when she got full.
Then went back and bought more haggis. Twice.
I've since found canned haggis available online, which means now every single time i have extra cash in my grocery budget i'll be buying some. Read how I did it… 19 months ago
