but with my tax refund I will not have to access credit. And I count that as ok, because it’s my money, and I knew I’d use a portion of it from the beginning.

to the vacation fund. I hope to put all my tax refund to it, as well. I will also be making a list of goods I’d like to get. (This may sound weird but I’m a Spanish teacher so I could go berserk). That way, I don’t overshop buying random crap while I’m there.

I was able to pay for my flight in cash because I stubbornly refused to raid this account for Christmas. And you know what? I had a nice Christmas without it!! And now I have zero CC debt still, too. Yippee! Now on to saving for the remainder of the trip.

The vacation is in March. I figure right now I have enough for the airfare, which is good, because I need to buy it. I really, really, really, really want to take this vacation without resorting to using my credit card at all. Right now I’m saving $400 a month toward the goal. I figure I have 3 months to save the remainder, so that will be $1200, plus my tax refund, which will be $800-$1000. I don’t even want to spend that much on the whole thing!! But it’s better to have a cushion than to resort to the card.
