Definitely more fun than the treadmill, Coffeeespaz! There was a large variety of abilities, so I didn’t feel self-conscious at all. Even when I was messing up the steps so badly! The key is to HAVE FUN and KEEP MOVING! I’ve been back again on my free pass and want to sign up and be a regular! I love it!!

I invited a friend, but even if she opts out, I’m still going! My friend who teaches it says her Weds class is small (fewer people to laugh at me?!?) so she’d love to have me come to help fill the class! Thought I’d post it here too, so there’d be no bailing out!

Its at a Golds Gym not too far from where my daughter has hockey practice. She even gave me a free pass. So I have no good excuse. Just have to work up my courage…

So I Zumba-ed
Even though Erin bailed on us, Sara and I braved teh Zumba class last night. It was not enjoyable. I thought it would be an aerobics-type class which incorporated latin dancing. However, it was taught like a dance class where we had to learn steps, got called out for doing it wrong and practiced until we were suppose to know it. I told myself that I would have to try it thre times before I had an opinion on it, but it’s just not for me. My hips don’t move that way, unless I am in the privacy of my own house!

Before I could brave a Zumba class on my own, I needed to gather some friends to take it with me first. So when both Sara and Erin agreed to go with me tonight I was over-joyed. We’ll see how it goes. Although I plan on taking the class three times before I make an opinion, I will be able to move this goal to the finished chart in a little over five hours!

I’m always looking for fun ways to exercise. My new gym offers a class on Tuesday evenings. I just need to buck up (get some friends together) and try it! I have to try it three times before I can form an opinion.

...and was the only guy in the class. I love it though. I will remain a part of my fitness program.

I’m definitely going to be a regular. It was energetic but not too difficult; the moves were surprisingly easy to pick up. I didn’t feel embarrassed to be a newbie in the class, but that might be because I’ve taken soul and bellydance before. I think once you learn the basics in one form of dancing, all the others are easier, because there’s a lot of cross-over. The prior bellydancing helped me get the hip action going, too. Latin dancing is so much in the hips!
What’s interesting is how I feel relatively comfortable in a class situation but as a dancer am still reserved in social situations. I think the structure of a class feels safe to me, whereas a dance floor in a club is intimidating. (I see a future goal here.)
