Perform a bellydance solo in public

A week from tomorrow, we’ll be performing at a local festival. My teacher asked if I’d be interested in doing a solo, so I hope to spend some time tonight deciding what music to use. I’m getting a lot more comfortable with just getting up and dancing, but since this will be my first time performing in public by myself, I think that I want to work out some of the details and practice them quite a bit ahead of time. I’m really excited.

The Jackson studio owner booked us at an expo at a local restaurant last week. They had astrologers, mediums, herbal medicines, organic food, art, massages… and of course bellydancers :)

There wasn’t much space for us to dance, so we were planning on just walking around looking like dancers and passing out flyers for dance and yoga classes. A lot of people were asking about a performance though, so my teacher and I improvised. Of course a real bellydancer should be able to do that, but I haven’t really gotten to the point of considering myself the real deal yet… in all of my classes, we’ve focused on learning technique and choreographies so far, and haven’t really made it to the interpreting and understanding the music part of things. Anyway, the performance went pretty well. I felt more confident than I thought I would, and a ton of people lined up to find out about classes. I’m excited about doing it again.
