remodel my house

We closed on the sale of the house this week. This goal is now officially abandoned. The new owners have undertaken a massive remodel. It’s in their hands now.

Damn, I haven’t updated this as much as I should! Anyway, the kitchen is close to finished, even though I’m thinking of changing the flooring. We’re going to clean out the girls’ room and finish the floor in the hallway this week.

What a change of plans! As soon as we signed the contract with the builder and got him started, we found a different house and bought it!

We’re like the couples who try forever to have a baby, finally adopt, and then get pregnant!

We’ve already sold the fixer-upper house. Now we just have to wait for the deals to close, which won’t be finalized until July. Then we are going to do some stuff on the new house before we move in, but mostly just cosmetic work—nothing like the major remodel we had planned.

As soon as we get the last of the pre-closing paperwork done this week, I am going to officialy abandon this goal.

The living room is almost complete! We decided to go with wall paneling since the paint made the walls look like crap, and it looks great. We have about 1/3 of the wall to finish. We’re probably going to purchase some new carpet we save up some more money. I also want to build a bookshelf; I have a ton of books and nowhere to put them!

I am remodeling my house, specfically creating a Mission era bungalow room where I can go to read and relax. It’s got beautiful dark-toned wood trim and floors, and gorgeous mission style carpets

We started with the living room this week. We painted the walls, but decided to nail some wood paneling to the walls when the paint started to peel. It was pretty nasty! The paneling gives it a nice, homey feel. We’re going to build some shelves for my lighthouse collection later on.

JB, our designer/builder, came over to our current house last weekend to take stock, measure shelves and closets, and generally get a feel for what we’ll need in the remodel. Then he and I met at the project house this morning where I left him to measure every inch of the place so he can start designing. Now it is getting exciting!

I grew up in a home that was built in 1957. It was a ranch style. When my mother passed away 2 years ago I asked my dad if I could remodel the house and he agreed. The home was in original condition with the appliances being the only thing they ever changed, so I decided to go through the entire home and remodel. It has taken 11 months working on the weekends only but it turned out great. I have all pictures room by room and what it looked like before and after. We looked at a couple of websites on log siding and decided that we’re going to turn our house into a log cabin! We found a decent kit that we can build ourselves. I can’t wait to get to work on it!
