Queen Kaz So glad I found 43things again
books better…
Well, i have seen the movie and read the book.
I can’t decide which is better.
Why don’t do both?
It’s only funny if you liked the books. Mos Def is pretty excellent in it. Very cute.
If you like the book, then you should like to movie – but if you are going b/c you like scifi flicks, this may not be your cup of tea
Saw it the other night, thought it was cute, very weird but cute…
did anyone else notice that it was practically a reunion for cast of Love Actually?
Purplenails tiddly pom, tiddly pom.
not as good as the book, but still good although a little too americanised for my taste, no americans in the book but hey I guess you gotta appeal to the masses. Was very funny though I thought, although my sister hated it but love the book. So not for everyone.
CallMeHeather it's never too late...
The movie was disappointing. I liked the book better
eh, not bad. But it was not frigging good, either. Hey, romance between Trillian and Arthur? I don’t think so. she is too cool, he is too neurotic.
All of the main characters, but Marvin and Arthur, were American. Marvin was a cutesy looking child robot with a big head. Everyone sounded drunk, and slurred their words (covering up the fact that timing was all wrong). There was no ship-making-tea incident, there was no argument with an overly-chirpy door. No penguins, not Brighton seafront going up and down (while the sea stayed still). No update of the guide from “harmless” to “mostly harmless” (Ford Prefect’s well researched amendment, took several years). And, Zaphod’s head… dont get me started. Oh! and who was that power-bitch with the Vogons, that was supposed to be his love-interest?
I didnt enjoy this at all. But there is a lot to live up to. The source was one of the classic radio series of all time, written by a genious, funny man. The move over to print worked, as it was possible to have more of the same (and more of the HHG funny stories and definitions). They try and shoehorn a series of vignettes and wordplay into a cohesive movie storyline, doomed to fail.
I guess, in the end, “the pictures are better on the radio”.
