How to become a lifeguard
How I did it: I became a lifeguard when i was 15 by taking a certification course at my local YMCA. Try to get ready for the fitness aspect of the job. I'm sure the requirements are something like the ability to swin 20 laps in a Jr. olympic sized pool, swim with a brick, and tread with no hands for 5 minutes. One thing to keep in mind is that LG's are strong swimmers but also sprinters!
Lessons & tips: Always bring the reflective shades! they are good for some hardcore napping! Also try to work at a summer camp, like a sleep away camp! Lifeguards are always the cool kids and have the best job!
Lifeguarding has helped me in many aspects of my life and because I lifeguarded for so many years at so many different places I have made some very very good contacts along the way! It's something I plan to do throughout college as an extra income and did it through all of highschool!
Resources: check your local red cross chapter for Lifeguard cert classes!

I’m about to get access to a nice pool in the next couple of weeks, and start a swimming routine. After I know if can swim 300 yards and have a little money, I’d like to sign up for classes and get certified. I’m already a certified EMT, so I think that taking this would be a great way to reinforce my current skills and help me learn some new ones. I’d also love to get a part-time job working as a lifeguard to help bring in some extra money, while working as a professional rescuer.

I believe I saw a course for the NLS which is the last course I need to finish off this part of my life…. to become a lifeguard and finish off what I started nearly 15 years ago. I can’t believe it’s been so long and I have no idea why I never finished this off earlier!
I think I can do this! I’ll update more. I have more work to do. I’m nearly 100 pounds overweight but I believe I can do this. I must get to the gym and start working at this.

i just got hired to work for the county… getting certified was a “feel-good” experience that i needed.
Best Job I've ever had!

Too many things came up that I have not been able to achieve the fitness level I want even though I know I could pass it… I have just my NLS to do… which is the last course before you’re done. So close, yet so far away :P
THere could be a potential for me to get it done late 2007, and if so—I might be able to get some work at the pools as a teacher… a possibility anyways! Will keep y’all updated…
I technically haven’t worked as a lifeguard yet, but I’ve been certified! Hurrah!

Even if you never work as a lifeguard, it’s great to be certified.
i’m really trying my hardest to pass the course i’m in. it’s only a 6 day class. so it’s like really short.. crash course!! i’m also an asthamtic.. so this is really hard. but i’m very determined to complete the course. :) if God wants me to do it, i know He’ll help me complete it. :D oh yeah!!!
