and on Ebay I bought a clarinet for $21.50 and it works! I’ve been practicing regularly for about a week and am glad to be accomplishing one of my life goals that I have been kicking around for a couple of years. I’m not good at the clarinet. That is, I can’t yet control the random squeaking. But I can play a few songs, and soon I will buy a book. Hooray!

Thanks to the help of maestro Juan Cruz Varela and a couple of programmes I downloaded (Anvil Studio and a metronome). It gets easier to rehearse with the notebook.

With maestro Juan Cruz Varela ; I imagine he is flattering with anyone who’s starting, but he sounded sincere when said that I had got by my own to a point that took 5 months to other people.
Anyhow, I’m learning to read music and play my first instrument at 33 so I can’t hope for anything too serius. Or can I?

It’s a pretty basic learning Knight clarinet. Bought it together with an old method book. Had a 2 hours practice and got to play 5 notes by my own with a steady, quite clean sound. Yeah, it’s not much and yet… Feels great!

when i was in 7th grade, i had band as an elective and my first choice was actually flute but when i tried it, i could not get it to sound. so, i choose the clarinet and i ended up being pretty good. i stopped my junior year though because of other priorities but, hopefully, i’ll go back to it later on.

So, clarinet would be a cool thing to learn for me. It will increase the number of woodwinds that I can play, and plus, I know how to play sax, therefore I should know clarinet as well. I’m just doing the standard instrument learning progression in reverse.
I like how the clarinet sounds, especially in Klesmer and other more eastern compositions. It’d be nice to be able to play some of that stuff.
