    Garden 15 months ago

Better late then never. I’ve finally got some seeds taking root in my yard. It is admittedly a small garden but it looks like I may actually get some green beans, Chard, Radishes, watermelon, squash, corn, cilantro, and potatoes. I’m sure I’m missing something. I think one plant did get eaten by bugs from what I can tell but most came up without them knowing. I think I am going to skip the seed starter on my next endeavor. I’ve not got any yields yet. I can wait to harvest something I grew. exciting.

The eggplant and the carrots still dont look like they are sprouting. I put some more seeds in the ground yesterday We’ll see if they take this time.

So it is super late in the season 16 months ago

I am not sure if I’ll actually see any veggies but I put my third attempt as seeds in the ground yesterday. trying to do seed via seed starters had been a miserable failure. Not sure why the seedling had such a hard time once I transfered them outdoors. The few plants I do have growing now I started in a planter and they are starting to flower. So we’ll see what happens.

ROOT CELLAR - I don't have a basement, but I want to build a root cellar. 16 months ago

I want an inground root cellar. I’m researching information on it right now, but if anyone knows anything about this topic, I’d be grateful for information.

    Thanks

    FOOD RIOTS! 19 months ago

So is anyone else concerned about the food riots taking place in various places around the world? Corporate greed? Overpopulation? What or where are the answers?

    Seeds planted 21 months ago

I bought a very small plastic green house with seed starting pellets and have planted some of my heirloom seeds this afternoon. I cant wait until they sprout and I can get them in the ground. :D

I actually spent probably the last hour and a half cleaning up my back yard and trying to do some prep for an additional veggie bed. This week I found out that I’m going to be having someone (I Know) come and start doing the yard care around the house. I’ve not been completely please about this but I could use the help. I do most of it myself and when I’m busy it doesn’t get done at all… When I was outside ripping out some weeds I came to me that the person who is going to be coming may really be interested in helping with a garden too. I’m going to talk to them on Sunday and see if they want to have a small little area to plant veggies in the yard as well. I think this will solve 2 problems for me.

I dont want any chemicals in the yard, and I dont want someone coming here begrudgingly and causing problems with the property owners in a sort of tattle tail sort of way. I think if I can get them involved and a bit invested in the yard, it will make the whole situation more pleasant for all parties. I’ll see how it goes. I can at least say I’m feeling better about the situation.

FINALLY bought my heirloom seeds 21 months ago

I can’t even say how long I’ve wanted to buy them… well actually I probably can if I find my old post. Regardless I now have about $25 worth of seeds on their way to me. I am really really pleased. Mark down one more in the column for a bit of self sufficiency.

Having a problem with my seeds 21 months ago

It looks like 2 of the dozens I planted are finally growing. they took so long that I’m not entirely sure what they are anymore I guess I’m just going to have to wait and find out. I think it is either broccoli or the cucumber seeds.

BEcause of this and the fact that I had a $10 off coupon I bought a small flat of spinach today. I planted it in several places in my yard to see where it flourishes best. I always love spinach so I think the dollar or so I spent will pay off for sure.
