How to make Homemade Jam by Trashcan Fashionista

"A jam-tastic adventure is waiting to be had when you decide to make jam!"

How I did it: I bought 4 pounds of fresh fruit, some plastic freezer jars and the no-cook jam making mix.  Then we crushed all the fruit, mixed it up with Splenda (so it's sugar-free!!) and let it thicken.  It made a nice sized batch too!  I can't wait to pop open a jar of strawberry jam in the dead of winter.  This is only the beginning of my jam-making adventures.  Stay tuned!

Lessons & tips: The most time-consuming part was removing stems and crushing the fruit.  We used a potato masher and that worked really well.

Resources: Get the Ball plastic containers.  They are made by the jam people and they all screw together for easy freezer stacking!  Jams keep fresh in the freezer for up to a year or in the fridge for up to 3 weeks.  Good luck!

How I did it: The backyard where I live has two massive blackberry bushes, and this year, I finally decided to take advantage of them. I googled recipes for black berry jam, and found one that just needed the fruit, sugar, and pectin.  I picked about two heaping bowlfulls of fruit, 7 cups sugar, and a pack of pectin, and followed the instructions accordingly.  I let it sit overnight in the jars, and the next morning I opened one and had it on… Read how I did it…

    This jam was so fun and easy to make! I have big plans for other jams now. Pear will be next, followed by blackberry or blueberry. Oh yes! Just ignore the stains on my shirt. A small price to pay for delicious jam :)

    I found a recipe in a magazine to make homemade jam and it’s really easy! So we made a stop at the supermarket today and bought all the supplies. Strawberry jam, here we come!

    Today I went raspberry picking at Downey’s Farm and when I came home I made my very own raspberry jam!!!
    Once it cools, I’ll spread ‘er on a piece of toast and see how it tastes!!! But I’m happy I ahve fulfilled this goal :)
