Dear 43 Things Users,

10 years after introducing 43 Things to the world, we have decided we have met our last goal: completing the incredible experience that has been 43 Things. Please join us in giving one last cheer to all the folks who have shared their goals with the world, as well as all the people who have worked at The Robot Co-op to build this incredible website. We won a Webby Award, published a book, and brought happiness to a lot of people.

Starting today, 43 Things users can export their goals and entries from the site. Starting August 15, we will make the site “read only”. 43 Things users will still be able to view the site and export their content, but we won’t be taking any new content from users. We hope to leave the site up for folks to see and download their content until the end of the year. Ending on New Year’s Eve takes us full circle.

It has been a long ride (one of our original goals was to "build a company that lasts at least 2 years” - we beat that one!) While we wish the site could live on, it has suffered from a number of challenges - changes in how people use the site, the advertising industry, and how search engines view the site. We wish the outcome was different – but we’ve always been realistic about when our goals are met and when they aren't.

As of today, you will be able to download your goals and entries. See more about that on the FAQ page. Thanks for 10 great years of goal-setting and achieving.

Finish writing my will and my Health Care Proxy.

doatsWoohoo!! I did it!

Well, it was a 2007 New Year’s Resolution, but I finally finished it 23 days into the following year. I got my will, durable power of attorney, and health care proxy all signed, witnessed, and notarized today. So glad to have that done. 6 years ago

doatsA few days late, but I've got an appointment to sign my will

I can’t believe a year has gone by and I haven’t finished this. It’s a bit embarrassing since the paperwork has been done for ages. All I need to do is go into the office and sign the papers!! Well, I made an appointment for this Friday to sign the papers, so I’m hoping to finally cross this off my list this week. 6 years ago

doatsMy health care proxy should be done this week or next

I wrote down all the information for my health care proxy and sent it off to my lawyer. (Who also happens to be my sister!) She’s going to prepare the legal document and send it to me this week so that I can get it notarized. She also wants me to execute a durable power of attorney so that should be done this week as well.

I’ve started working on my will, but that’s going to take longer. It’s a very interesting process. Especially working on the specific bequests. It’s amazing how little my “stuff” starts to mean to me when I think of leaving it behind. I like my house and I have a lot of things that mean something to me. But when I think of leaving them to someone after I’m gone, they just seem far less important. 7 years ago
