I was super into this goal and started taking lessons from a great teacher. And… then I got busy and literally haven’t practiced in a month. I feel guilty and it’s like… well I could just quit. I don’t really want to but I have about 7,000 things to do this summer anyway so I will be forced to take a break soon anyway.
Still, I’m very resistant to the quitting mentality. When everyone in my place wakes up I’ll start practicing.
It’s making me sad and aren’t goals supposed to make you happy? I suppose if they were easy you wouldn’t have to work at them.

Which instrument? 1 month ago

I’ve thought about this one a lot, and as it stands I think my mindset is best suited for playing the piano, or keyboard. Since of those two, I own a keyboard, this seems like the one I am most capable of learning.

Actually, I'd like to learn a few. 2 months ago

I definitely want to learn to play the guitar and piano. I wouldn’t mind playing the drums a bit either, though.

It Didn't Take 14 Years 3 months ago

That’s just how long I’ve been playing instruments. I didn’t really know what to say for that though. I started playing violin when I was five, but then gave up (I was FIVE!) Then, at nine, I began the piano, which I took lessons for up until just last year (2008). In fifth grade, I learned to play the flute, and from sixth grade to now, I’ve played the clarinet. While I was taking lessons for clarinet, I asked my teacher to give me some drum lessons. He obliged, so I have a small bit of knowledge about a drum set (he moved away after maybe 3 lessons…sad, I know). Anyway, I’m teaching myself to play the guitar, and I’m trying to learn the oboe. The oboe is difficult, because the only one I have access to is a piece of crap. We can’t afford to rent/lease/buy one. I’m going to go back to violin lessons soon, because I think the violin is a beautiful instrument.
I have to say, if you want a good basis for all instruments, play the piano. However—I think that if you’re interested in strings, play a string instrument, and if you’re interested in a wind instrument, play one of those. I have done that, but always coupled with the piano. Playing piano gives you a lot of knowledge about notes and junk (ha, that sounds smart). Whatever instrument you take up, always learn some music theory. That will help too.
Good luck, everybody!

since this new transition i want to play the guitar and the paino. and well..enough to play a song through anyway. still indecisive of which one to start with, but i’ve heard once the paino is learned, it’s easier to play other instruments.
