It just fits. I’ve been working on guitar for so many years, on and off, but I think bass comes more naturally. Besides, it’s much easier to find folks to play with if you play bass than if you show up as the seventh guitar!

because that’s where i found her—Kim, my Ibanez electric for like 100 bucks. i named her after Kim Deal of the Pixies and Kim Gordon of Sonic Youth. i can play notes on her just fine, but timekeeping is another story for me. but so far, i’m enjoying this very much. bands with female bassists just kick so much ass.

I am determined! I played again last night and though I got frustrated when making mistakes, I learned a new song. It is hard for me, because when I start to learn new things I want to be really good from the beginning. I must realize that I don’t need or can be perfect and that learning takes time.

Worked well tonight 5 months ago

I learned to play Green Day’s “Holiday” tonight. It’s so fun to play, the problem is to find enough time for it.

New room 5 months ago

I moved my bass into my workroom. That’s where I am much of the time. I also developed a new practice routine. I will start soon!

Still There 5 months ago

Bass is still looking at me. It’s like a piece of furniture. I just remembered that I can go back to an old church of mine to have a regular opportunity to play. I also found a place near my home to take lessons. That’s really the only way, but I’m cautious about the financial and time committment.

play rhythm guitar and have a tendency to write riffs on the low strings a lot, is bass something that could come along naturally? it seems to me that the basics aren’t too hard, but becoming a really technically good bassist is quite difficult.

redlamp asks, “I'm having difficulties strumming the bass with my fingers. It seems I have to clip my nails constantly in order to play otherwise my nails will make a twanging sound as I strum (pick?) at the strings. Any suggestions on how to go about this properly?”
